http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/solveCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=90809&lang=en Here is the HP site for any extra info you may need. ISSUE: Sometimes when printing out, the carriage makes an abnormal noise or its movement is erratic. SOLUTION: To solve this issue, follow the steps listed below: NOTE: The images and descriptions showed along the document might be slightly different depending on your HP All-in-One model. 1. Clean the unit front and back rollers. To do so, follow the steps listed below: 1. Disconnect the power cord or power supply from the rear of the unit. 2. Open the print carriage access door. 3. Remove the rear door and check it for damage. 4. Make sure that the paper rollers inside the rear access door rotate freely. Please clean them using a lightly moistened cloth. 5. Wipe the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled or bottled water. Rotate the rollers with your fingers to clean all the way around. 6. Allow the rollers to dry completely, and then close the rear access door. NOTE: Make sure the rear access door is correctly closed and placed. 7. Through the previously open cartridge access door, clean the front rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled or bottled water. Please rotate the rollers with your fingers to clean all the way around. 2. Use a clean, dry cotton cloth to wipe the carriage rod. Move the carriage as needed to clean the full length of the rod. WARNING: Do not lubricate the rod. 3. If noise is located at the paper path, it may be caused by ink, dust or other residues stored over the pinch rollers. Please, clean the pinch rollers by using a cloth lightly moistened with alcohol. 4. The edge of the pitch rollers must be cleaned too. To do so, use a small drop of alcohol. This will remove the ink and will solve the issue. (see detail in the image below). 5. Clean the carriage contacts and the capping station. To do so: 1. Connect the power cord to your HP All-in-One product, and turn the unit on. 2. Lift the front of the HP All-in-One product just above the paper output tray as shown below. The print cartridge capping station will lower to allow access to the print cartridges. 1 - Print cartridge latch 2 - Capping station 3. Gently pull up the print cartridge latch front to release it. The latch is spring loaded and will spring upwards. Slowly raise the latch instead of letting it spring open. 4. 5. Remove each print cartridge by sliding it out of its socket, moving it toward the front of the HP All-in-One product. Do not try to pull it in an upwards direction. NOTE: If the print cartridge cannot be slid out, verify that the latch is raised, and the HP All-in-One product is on. If it is not possible to remove the cartridge, too much time may have passed since it was opened and the capping station may have raised again. Close the print carriage access door, wait five seconds, and then open it again to lower the capping station. 6. Extract the cartridges and clean the copper contacts with a watered lint-free cloth 1 - Copper-colored contacts 2 - Ink nozzles (do not clean) 7. Disconnect the power cord from the HP All-in-One product. 8. Clean the electric pins placed in the front of the print carriage using a lightly moistened cloth. 9. Using a dry cloth, clean the ink stored inside the capping station sponges (see the image below). 10. Mop up the electric pins completely, and connect the power cord again. 11. Turn on the unit, reinstall the cartridges, and close the print carriage access door. 12. If the noise issue remains unsolved, please perform a Power Cycle on the unit following the steps below: 1. Turn the unit off. 2. Unplug the power cord from the unit. 3. Wait 30 seconds, and then re-connect the power cord to the unit. 4. Turn the unit on. 13. If the issue persists, the unit may need to be reset. Please, consult the HP All-in-One Products - Performing a Partial Reset of the All-in-One document to learn how to do it. Additional steps (only for PSC 1100 & 1200 Series All-in-One products HP PSC 1100 & 1200 Series All-in-One products may be affected by this issue, due to the friction between the printing carriage and the paper. Please, print a couple of pages full of black text in Normal mode, and follow the steps listed below if the printed text looks like the image below: 1. Print a Self-Test Report and then, check the quality of either the text or the color bars. Follow these steps to print a self-test report: 1. Press and hold the Cancel and the Color buttons at the same time. 2. Release both buttons. 3. The Self Test Report will be printed. 2. If the media does not fit the weight specifications (see table below) or if paper is curled, then this may prompt the bottom of the ink cartridge to come in contact with the media. If this happens, the print will smear and the cartridge may become damaged. HP PSC 1100 & 1200 Series Type Paper Weight Plain paper 70 to 90 gr/m2 (20 to 24 lb.) Cards Up 200 gr. (110 lb.) Turn on the HP PSC 1100 Series product. 2. Disconnect the USB cord from the unit rear. 3. It might take several tries to complete the sequence within ten seconds. 1. Press and hold the Cancel button. 2. While holding the Cancel button, press the On button. 3. When the Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge lights begin to blink simultaneously, release both buttons. 4. Press the Cancel button again. 5. Press the Resume button. 6. Hi,
I assume you have Vista and when the scan button is pressed on the product, nothing happens. The scan button does not work correctly. Workaround
Choose one of the following options to scan without using the scan button. Option one: Scan using Windows Fax and Scan

  1. Click the Windows icon (c01319360.gif), click Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.
NOTE: The Windows Fax and Scanoption is available in the Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise editionsof Windows Vista. If you have the Home Basic or Home Premium edition ofWindows Vista, skip to Option two: Scan using Paint.
  2. Click New scan.
  3. Click File, and then click Scan.

Issue The error ' Open Door, Clear Carriage Jam, and then Press Enter ' displays on the product. The following symptoms might also accompany this error:
* The product will not print. * Printing stops unexpectedly. * The carriage does not move.
Try the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. Solution one: Turn the All-in-One off and on again
1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product. 2. Press the Power button ( ) to turn the product on again.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution two: Clear any paper jam A carriage jam might follow a paper jam. Follow these steps to check for and remove any jammed paper. Step one: Check for and remove any loose paper from the input tray Remove any loose paper from the input tray, the output tray, and the automatic document feeder (ADF). CAUTION: Do not remove jammed paper at this stage. Step two: Clear a paper jam from the rear access door WARNING: Always clear paper jams through the back door if possible. To avoid tearing the paper and damaging the print mechanism, pull paper from the printer slowly and gently. Avoid touching the internal components of the printer.
1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer. 2. Remove the back door and remove as much jammed paper as possible.
3.Replace the back door and open the carriage access door. If there is paper visible that cannot be removed through the back door, gently pull it out from the front.
4. Reconnect the power cord and close the printer.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution three: Make sure that the carriage moves freely
1. With the product turned on, open the cartridge access door. The carriage might try to move into the access area. If so, allow it to move to that position. 2. Without turning off the product, unplug the power cord from the back of the product. WARNING: You must disconnect the power cord to move parts by hand without the risk of an electrical shock. 3. Look in through either the cartridge access door or the output paper tray to make sure that the cartridges are secure in the carriage and not loose. Also, make sure that there are no obstructions under or around the carriage to block it from moving. 4. Make sure the carriage can move freely across the width of the product by gently pushing the carriage to the left and then to the right. Clear any obstructions found. You might have to reach through the output paper tray to access the carriage. 5. Close the cartridge access door and reconnect the power cord to the product. 6. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Solution four: Remove and reinsert the print cartridges Incorrect installation of the print cartridges can cause the product to show a false carriage jam. Follow these steps to remove, and then reinstall the print cartridges. Step one: Remove the print cartridges
1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn off the product. 2. Open the front of the product to access the carriage. The carriage moves to the center of the product.
3. Unlatch the two print cartridge latches, and then raise the latches. 4. Remove the print cartridges.
Step two: Reinsert the print cartridges
1. One at a time, hold a print cartridge with the printed label up, and then slide the print cartridge into its slot. Repeat this step for the other print cartridge.
# NOTE: Insert the black print cartridge into the slot with the gray latch, and insert the color cartridge into the slot with the blue latch. # Grasp the end of the latch on the cartridge slot with your thumb, and then pull the end of the latch toward you. While holding the latch, press down on the top of the latch until it stops, and then release the end of the latch so that it catches under the tabs. CAUTION: To avoid damaging the product, do not force the latches into place.

3. Close the product cover. A message displays on the control panel to align the print cartridges. 4. Press the Enter button to begin the cartridge alignment. Two pages print. Follow the instructions printed on the second page to complete the alignment. 5. Try the print job again.
* If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting. * If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

"Scanner Failure" on HP PSC

"Scanner Failure" on HP PSC 2175 after a power outage. It's now making a rapid clicking sound. Last year with the same failure after a power outage, unplugging the unit and then holding down the Cancel button and Right Arrow button simultaneously while replugging the unit worked after several tries. Now this "solution" which supposedly does a Full Reset. I'm upset that a simple power outage would knock out a printer. I'm ready to try another brand after looking at CNet reviews of multifunction printers.
