This can be caused by the toner cartridge being completely empty or the shipping strip not having been removed prior to installation into the printer. Hope that it is one of these problems because if not, then it could be something much more serious/expensive to fix. For example, it could be the laser itself has failed, so the laser unit would need to be replaced. It might also be the charging roller has failed (but usually this would cause a printout with defects rather than a completely blank page). You might also have a problem with the High Voltage Power Supply.

It sounds to me like you may be using this printer through the JetDirect interface and have the printer assigned a different IP address than what the computer is expecting. For example, if the computer is configured to find the printer at 192.168.1.205 and the printer has an address of 192.168.1.120, you will see the "printer offline" message on the computer but the printer is happily "online" according to its point of reference. Another possibility is that the computer has the printer configured to "offline" mode. To check this, right-click on the printer and see whether there is a check mark next to "Use Printer Offline." If so, click on that option and that will remove the check mark, returning the printer to online status.

As one person suggested above, it is possible to share the printer between two machines. All you need to do is set it up as a TCP/IP printer and assign it an address (either through the DHCP server or by giving it a static IP address), then go into the two machines and add the printer as a network printer. When asked about the type of port to use, select Local TCP/IP port... and enter the IP address of the printer. I recommend setting a reserved DHCP address through your router to insure that the printer keeps a constant address and to insure that the router does not accidentally try assigning the same address to something else and therefore cause an IP address conflict.

Repetitive flaws in the printout can indicate problems with the fusing assembly, charging roller, image drum, paper feed rollers, or other parts. The key is to measure how far apart each print defect is as measured from the top of the page to the bottom. Hi there this issue is caused by your driver defaulting to letter and a4 paper being used set your default paper size to a4 in the driver and also set tray to a4 this should cure the problem Regards AL "alstech"

That's a "beam detect" error. You probably have to get the laser/scanner replaced. Part Number C2037-69008.

Hello, The problem you are experiencing has to do with either a bad toner cartridge or the black foam roller underneath the cartridge has become dis-lodged and now has no electrical connection to get a charge to help transfer the image to the paper. Try not to get it contaminated with excessive oil from your fingers and just press it down on the ends to secure it. if the foam roller fix doesn't do it then you need to purchase a new toner cartridge. Hello; The most common reason that laserjet's get grey background print-outs is that the toner cartridge's drum has gone bad. I have seen it many, many times on new and old cartridges and the only way to fix it is to buy a new toner cartridge. Sorry for the bad news. Good Luck! Rich Lilja

Hello, You will need to go into the printer's settings and change the tray 2 paper size back to letter. This printer is an oldie and does not rely on the paper tray to tell it what size paper the tray contains. Another possibility is that If your program is sending a print job (which will over-ride the printers settings) that somehow is set up as legal, then you will need to either abort or cancel the print job on the printer or install a legal size piece of paper into tray #1 (the manual feed tray) and then press GO or CONTINUE on the printer to complete the print job!
