print cartridges

I've just installed a new black cartridge and the message reads, " Remove and check cartridge on right." I've done this several times, changed to a different, new cartridge and have powered the unit off and on and yet the message doesn't go away and I cannot use the unit.

Is it a genuine new HP cartridge and also not an expired date? Also may need a new printhead.

scanning document leaves streak down right hand side

When scanning documents to computer or copying to printer there is a streak left about one inch from the right margin. I checked the glass. I printed documents with no streak. It is obviuosly in the scanning portion.

Even a single grain of dust or a single strand of hair on the scanning glass will cause the scan head to perceive ink/image where there is none. Deffinetly try cleaning the glass using a good window cleaner, and a cloth that is completely clean, or even a peice of newspaper. If the black line remains, I would suggest taking it into a service center to have the scan head itself cleaned.

HP office jet 7310

Hi. On my printer there is an error 0x0... message on screen. I have done the reset, with pulling the usb cord out and then placing it back and also unplugging it. Can you please assist me? Thanks

tommiv,

FYI: Simply pulling/replacing a USB cable or pulling/replacing the power cable does not perform any sort of reset.

Full reset:
a. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.
b. Press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.
c. Wait until "Semi full reset" displays ("Semi" appears despite the fact this key sequence is defined as a full reset).
d. Answer questions - Language/country, etc.

Partial reset:
a. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.
b. Press and hold # and 3 while plugging in the power cord.
c. Wait until "partial reset" displays.
d. Answer questions - Language/country

Maybe this will help,

Officejet 7310: Scanner Failure

My machine is out of warranty. From the beginning it has had issues with scanning but now even printing results in a "scanner failure." The cost to have HP fix it just doesn't seem like a smart investment. I was hoping someone could tell me what the part is and whether a savvy tech person could swap it out. It apears to be a hardware issue but no idea how to fix it. From the boards, this seems to be a popular issue with this product.

Any thoughts?

If you get a "Scanner failure" message then the problem is the motor itself. Notice how the motor works fine when the scanner is moving slowly, like copies or faxing with the original laid on the glass. HOWEVER, the scanner failure comes up when you use the automatic document feeder on top. Why? Because the scanner assembly has to move to the other side of the printer at high speed to get into position, and it's the high speed movement that triggers the error on the printer. The motor is expensive, part number Q3450-60003. Many other models use the same motor, maybe you could find one cheap somewhere and swap the motor?

Jam in the document feeder

I have a paper jam deep in the document feeder. HP on line support says this: "WARNING: In the rare occurrence of a severe paper jam, you might need to remove the face plate from the front of the automatic document feeder and lift the pick assembly to remove torn pieces of paper from deep inside the automatic document feeder."

However, they don't tell you how to lift the pick assembly. The jam is way down in between the feeder, underneath the cover.

I think I found my answer. You don't have to un do any screws. Lift up the cover to the automatic feeder. You will see a spring on the side of the mechanism towards the front; remove the spring; that will allow you to lift up the little arm the spring was attached to and remove the roller or bar and the light blue/green plate just under it. Then you will be able to see the jammed paper, which which I was able to carefully pull out with a pair of tweezers. Some was under rubber rollers, but when I pulled the paper sideways it slipped out. Now it works!

The printer doesn't recognize the new original HP color cartridge

The printer displays : "insert color Printer Cartridge in Left Stall" message.
After I proceeded to insert an HP Tri-color Print cartridge (97), the printer still displays the same message as before " insert color Printer Cartridge in Left Stall" as the printer does not see the cartridge that I installed.

I replaced the cartridges before and worked fine. The black cartridge has no problem.

Note: The cartridge was installed correctly and I used original brand new cartridges which I bought from Office Depot.

Please help

There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.

HP Officejet 7310 carriage jam

I'll start by explaining some of the components you need to understand to troubleshoot the carriage system.

The Carriage is the thing the cartridges are mounted in, it slides on the carriage rail, the bushings in most newer carriages are made of plastic, (or maybe it would actually be called a polymer, or composite material). The bushings are the pieces that wrap around the carriage rail.

The carriage rail is a shiny round rod that the carriage rides on, it is driven across the rod by the carriage belt, by the carriage motor, at the opposite end of the belt there is an idler pulley, ".

In a HP printer the device where the carriage parks, (sits at), when the machine is not printing is called the service station, it is responsible for cleaning the print heads, and for capping the heads when you are not printing, (so they won't dry up). The bottom of the service station is the "Spittoon Base", ink is spayed into the base before printing to prime the heads, there is an absorbent pad in the base to soak up the ink. Note that the pad does not always soak up all the ink, so if you tilt an HP printer you can spill the ink out of the service station, (especially if it is a heavily used printer). The piece that moves back and forth in the service station is the "Sled", it was wipers to clean the heads on it, and the caps that keep the heads from drying out are also part of this assembly. The sled is moved back and forth before the carriage leaves the service statio to wipe the heads, this happens after the heads are primed, then the carriage is moved off the service station and the sled is again moved back and forth to clean the wipers.

The encoder strip is a plastic timing fence that looks clear at first glance, but has black lines painted on it. The strip is threaded through an optical sensor on the back of the carriage.

When the printer initializes the carriage has to leave the service station, or, if the machine was powered off when the carriage was somewhere else, whatever spot it is sitting in, and travel the way to the other side of the printer, and then return to it's home position which is the service station.

When the carriage reaches the side of the printer away from the service station it sets that as a reference, then it counts lines on the encoder strip as it travels home, if it doesn't see enough lines before it gets all the way to the other side and can't move any more then the printer decides the carriage must have something blocking it.

Sometimes a service station will fail in a way where the sled does not retract fully, if that failure happens when the carriage is parked then the carriage will usually not be able to leave the service station. If the service station binds when the carriage is off of the station, then the station may not be able to move all the way to that side, and will detect a carriage jam. When the service station binds you might hear a grinding noise as it's motor tries to drive the sled back and forth.

If the encoder strip is dirty the printer may not see all the lines and detect an error, often when the strip is dirty the carriage will move too fast and slam to one side of the printer.

I use water to clean the encoder strips in HP printers, water works well on water based inks, if your printer uses ink with another base you might use alcohol, but "ONLY" if the ink is not water based.

One end of the encoder strip is attached to a spring mount, if you wipe the strip starting at the end that is attached to the frame, and wipe only towards the spring mount, then the strip will stay attached to the printer.

A dry carriage rail will cause the carriage to bind, if the carriage does not move fast enough a carriage jam will be detected. Some newer HP printers use grease on the carriage rail, many models use a liquid lubricant, Use "ONLY" light synthetic or silicone based lubricants on printers that use a liquid lubricant, Petroleoum based products may melt the plastic bushings and ruin the carriage. (YES, Petroleoum based means WD-40)

some HP printers have a timing disc on the service station, and if the service station binds, or the timing sensor fails they report a carriage jam, but as far as I've seen that jam always occurs before the carriage moves.
You can use a synthetic lubricant on the carriage rail :hope this helps

"Remove and Check cartridge on right"

I replaced my black ink cartridge. It told me to remove it and check it several times, then finally I somehow managed to get it to work. A couple of days later, it spontaneously started giving me the same error message again, and I can't get it to work this time. I really really need to be able to print ASAP and I don't want to have to change everything to dark blue. This is an HP Inkjet All-in-One 7310.

Probably the metal spring inside the printer chute is out of place - I had to adjust onto the plastic ridges inside - see HP website solution at:
