Did you change the OS environment? Scanners are notorious for not working properly with newer OS..Driver issue.

You can try using the software provided for Windows XP and run it in compatibility mode under Windows 7. Download it here
Before installing the software, right click the setup program > Properties >
Compatibility > check mark Run this program in compatibility mode and then choose the OS you have downloaded the software driver for.
It should install and run fine.

However, you might be able to install the Windows XP drivers and run the driver in 'Compatibility Mode' for XP SP2.

First, un-install any drivers you have installed for the scanner (if you have tried any).

Second, disconnect the scanner from your computer.

Download the driver and the software update from the provided link (above).

Once you have downloaded the driver (ps804en.exe) right click it, select the Properties/Compatibility Tab and check 'Use Compatibility Mode' and set it for Windows XP SP2, and also check 'Run as Administrator'
Then click ok.

Now run ps804en.exe and do not connect your scanner until the installation is finished (unless it specifically asks you to connect the scanner).

Now right click the updated software (ps803mu.exe),select the Properties/Compatibility Tab and check 'Use CompatibilityMode' and set it for Windows XP SP2, and also check 'Run asAdministrator'
Then click ok.

Now run ps803mu.exe


With any luck this might work.

That is because there isn't one. Have you tried installing in XP mode?

Access the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.hp.com
and enter the model-number of your printer, and do the search.
Select "Downloads".
Select "Mac OS".
Select the device-driver.
Download it.
Install it.
Print.

Unfortunately there is absolutely no Windows 7 support for this model scanner. It has not been supported since the Windows 2000 days which was over 10 years ago now.

If you have to run this scanner I suggest you get an old computer from somewhere like a good will type shop, one that has Windows 98 on it... That way you can run this scanner without issue, and then can email or put the pictures you scanned on a thumb drive and transfer them to your main computer.

at this time there is no windows 7 software released for this scanner, this comes directly from HP support, nor is there any plans to release any updated software, as u have found out windows 7 is not compatable with any other windows operating systems.

After done the Scan you can use Windows pic viewer and resizing it.

What version of Windows are you using it on at present, or have you been in the
past? If XP then get the latest versions from:

There's a main download and an update.

If you have any HP software that you have tried uninstall it using Remove
Programs and then disconnect the USB cable from the PC end and install the XP
software as follows:

Locate the downloaded file ps804en.exe 1/1 (70.62M) on your computer, Right
Mouse Click on it and select Properties / Compatibility TAB.

On that TAB, check Use Compatibility mode and set it to XP with SP2 and also
check lower down the [x] Run as Administrator and OK your way out.

Do not connect the device until the installation procedure tells you to or
until you get to Finish.

Then repeat the procedure on the downloaded update file ps803mu.exe 1/1
(373.11k) although you can leave the USB cable connected unless it tells you
otherwise.

I use an older USB Powered Hub between my computer and the S20 scanner, a Belkin I found at a garage sale for $2 works fine. It is only rated for USB 1.1. The S20 is a USB 1.1 device. My computer was "too fast" with its USB 2.0 ports and it looks like I needed to "slow it down". There is no way it will worked plugged directly into the computer, but plugged into the hub, and then the hub plugged into the computer, it is very reliable.

Windows XP had nothing to do with it, from what I can see. I had Windows XP on a previous computer with only USB 1.1, and ran into the problem when I got a computer with USB 2.0 ports.

Lines/streaks at the same location indicate either a speck of dust stuck on the glass or the glass may be scratched.
