The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Check the clutch, brake assembly and transmission, one way to check for slipping is to get under the machine after a spin cycle ( this is if u get a lil spin but not much leaving clothes still wet) mix in a spray bottle a lil water and some dish detergent, then spray it on the clutch assembly ( the metal round pc. Connected to the tranny) if it sizzles and steams up then u know its bad and slipping. Another way to check clutch if u get no spin at all? Is to take it out and use ur hand to try and turn the inner spring assembly pushing it around the inside? If its very easy, it BAD should be hard to push by hand. Next check the motor coupler which engages the tub and tranny to the motor. ( if its bad u usually get no wash or spin or very little of either) Next check for a loose, worn or broken belt if belt driven. On some front load models u may need to check the STATOR assembly. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed. Sometimes a no spin machine can be due to a plugged waterpump hose or obstructed water pump propeller. Check these by eye and hand.

you could have something hung up between the inner and outer tubs. A lot of times, a underwire out of a bra will get hung up between the tubs and can cause a hole in the outer tub. If the unit is over 5 years old and you have to replace the tubs, it's not worth fixing

The humming is coming from the motor. Sounds like the unit has overheated or sensed an electrical failure. The light indicates the same. It's either the door lock, iser interface or motor board. Call a qualified professional to fix this.

I'm taking it that machine is old. If I had to guess, and I have no idea what you mean it's locked, but that panel looks like it comes off.

It provides water and very little agitation that might damage or stretch the clothes. Read the manual. Google Amana (model) manual ..

Fiona, could it be that your'e using Liquid color-safe bleach as it is thicker than chlorine bleach and will not dispense properly from the chlorine bleach dispenser? And did you Remove the inserts from the drawer. The inserts are the detergent selector and covers of the softener and bleach dispenser.. and clean and replace them? Tis really hard not being there and being able to see the unit. But thought I'd give you these suggestions. Best to you.

Laundry Washer or Dishwasher? If it is a dishwasher, it sounds like the Flood Sensor is stopping the cycle. There is a tray between the floor and the underside of the basin. If it is a Dishwasher, you just need to find the leak and fix it. For a Laundry washer, it is a problem with the control board and needs professional diagnosis and repair.
