My washing machine want drain
The pump is most likely clogged. this is a direct drive pump, which is connected to the
motor, Usually it is a small sock in most cases. You will need to drain as much water
as you can (A shop vac is ideal for this) and **** the water from the drain hose as
well before detaching the hose clamp from the tank to the pump. Use a kitty pan to
catch the remaining water. The pump is accessed by having someone tilt the
unit to access the underneath. Pinch the spring clamps and move them back to remove
hoses. Unplug the unit before servicing. Hope this helps.
Roper washer will not spin
If the washer is running, but the agitator is slipping or not spinning, then you may have worn agitator dogs, or a loose agitator bolt. The following link explains what the dogs are, and how to access the bolt and replace them:

If
the washer does not agitate or spin, most commonly, this is caused by
either a lid switch malfunction or a broken motor coupling. The

In less common situations, the problem could be related to a bad
gearcase (transmission) or timer. These parts generally cost more as
well. I would recommend you verify the simple items first by double
checking your symptoms. If you need further guidance, let me know.

You have either a kinked hose or some sort of blockage. Take the hose off the pump and try to see if your blockage is before or after the pump.
Washer wont get past first part of cycle, water
Hello Sarah,
Welcome to FixYa.
You've haven't specified if this is a new washer or recently installed, or perhaps it's just new to you, but here`s what I find is most common when dealing with the symptom you`ve described ( as long as water isn't filling over the top )
I'd suspect the drain hose is lying down on the floor or is pushed down into the stand-pipe too far.
If the drain hose is below the water level entering the washer it will siphon out immediately. The drain hose must be above the highest point the washer has to fill, ( refer to your manual, but it is typically recommended to be about "48 to "60 in height but not more than 90" or so )
i.e.
I realize the print there is small, so I've typed it out here...
**The standpipe drain requires a minimum diameter standpipe of 2" (5 cm). The minimum carry-away capacity can be no less than 17 gal. (64 L) per minute. A 2" (5 cm) diameter to 1" (2.5 cm) diameter standpipe adapter kit is available. " The top of the standpipe must be at least 39" (99 cm) high and no higher than 96" (244 cm) from the bottom of the washer.**
Also if it is in a stand pipe insure it isn't pushed in too far, just a few inches and then secure it without completely covering over the opening or that too will cause it to siphon.
Check your drain hose. Let me know if this was indeed the case and if so please rate the solution accordingly. If not we can move forward from there.
Thank's for coming to FixYa and good luck.
Regards,
Macmarkus :)
I have a Roper washing
Most common causes for a machine that won't drain are:
- Clogged drain tube
- Clogged drain hose
- Clogged drain pump
To diagnose, remove the drain hose from the drain tube and look for water in the tube. A clog will force water back into the machine. If this is clear, some debris could have worked it's way into the drain hose itself. Check this by removing the hose and inspect for a blockage. If both are fine, the problem is most likely in the drain pump. Many times, a piece of paper left in a pocket will work it's way into the drain pump and get lodged.
Washing machine will no longer spin
The two issue that keep a washer from spinning are the lid switch, if it has failed the machine won't spin, Or the pump is plugged and the machine won't allow it to spin till cleared. Can you give me any more info on this?
Water pumps out too fast and drain over flows
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Sorry but this is more likely to be a fault with the drain system, not with the washer pumping out too fast ;-0)
I suspect that the u-bend might be blocked or another problem down the line. The drain pump only operates at its one speed, honest!
Cheers,
John C
MY WASHER WON'T SPIN, BUT YOU CAN HEAR THE MOTOR
Hello &
Welcome to FixYa
When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin
then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch
by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as
jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid
switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other
questions.

Hi I have a used Roper washing machine and the
Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Sorry but I do not know your particular machine BUT I would suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters. The motor is unable to drain all of the water in the allotted time.
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and held in by a round cover/knob.
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT!
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. If it doesn't work then the motor is malfunctioning!
Hope the filter is the problem and good luck!

Washer either doesn't empty completely or after it
The fat that it drains as fast as it fill suggests that the drain hose is too low , resulting in a syphon taking place..... raise the hose around 2 foot above floor level. this should cure...also the fact that water is entering machine,,,
My machine is making a grinding/screeching noise
you most likely have eather a bad gear case or a basket drive assembly including the clutch. eather way you have to take the washer apart to do it and will be expensive. gear case is about $120-180 part only.
