Roper washing machine AL5143VLI won't spin
Hello, Kurt. First of all I think the reason it is not spinning is the switch. Where the lid peg goes into the slot on the machine, (the little hole the peg goes in), that is called the switch, if that goes out it it will not allow machine to spin. It is a safety device for kids not to be able to stick hand in machine when at high speed, so when lid lifts , idea is for it to stop spinning. Of course when switch goes out, now needs replacing , because will not work until it is fixed. Maybe this will help some? I am know on

STYLEMATER 4214164, AGITATOR SEAMS TO BE STUCK,
are you sure it's aggitating?common problem with direct drive washers is the motor coupling breaks and the transmission can't engage with the motor or you could have a bad transmission.usually you'll find oil leaking out of the ******. you can check this and the coupling at the same time.one other thing, when in spin open the lid and then close it and listen for a clunk and see if it spins, that would be the clutch on the ******.if this happens see if you can get it to spin in any other cycles,i've had bad timers do this,if it spins near rinse but not in the final spin and if you open the lid, close the lid and then the clutch falls and it does spin i'd say you have a bad timer, you can watch the timer,if it moves all the way to end but it doesn't spin in the same spot on the final spin but does spin in any other cycle it's the timer.but check the coupling first.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K1KHEogf3c copy and paste,it will show you how to get at the coupling.
My roper washing machine will only work on rinse
It is possible that the machine does not start off the cycle because there are errors due to feedback from the inputs. For the program to start up the main program controller must initiate the INLET/MOTOR/DRAIN pump/ valve to open up and allow each function to be driven starting from the flow of water into the drum as also the drain valve to open to exit the water at the point of the program cycle. If this does not happen then the voltage at the valve/motor/pump must be checked or the fault relates to no voltage from the controller. This means the controller is a suspect.
If the water flows then the flow should be good, if not the inlet valve is bad or there is dirt in the filter. Also check the flow at the inlet of the water line. Once the water comes into the system the WATER LEVEL SENSOR - normally a pressure switch- must activate at the preset/chosen level to give the signal to the program controller to switch on the motor. What is most important for the motor to start functioning is that the door switch must be ON when the door is shut or this will be an error for starting the motor for rinse and wash.
How do you take the back off the machine?
You don't, The front sides and top come off as 1 piece. Under the control panel there are 2 clips that you pop off, ddisconnect the door lid switch plug. lean the cabnet foward,( take notice of how the bottom sits on the base) and lift off the cabnet. When you put it back make sure that the water level hose didnt come off, you have water all over the floor. Good Luck
My washer won't spin
Usually when this happens its the clutch. especially if you see it trying to spin. If it agitates and doesnt even try yo spin it could be the transmission.
