what type of dvd drive do you have on the acer,if its an lite on combo then they wont accept some types of cd or dvd discs,i had the same problem, and ended up buying an other dvd drive.

The connections are printed on the edge of the MoBo under the pins. With the back panel on your left the front panel connector pins are on the bottom right bottom row should be (from left to right) PWRLED PWRSW

Check on the version of your BIOS, This has been an issue with older BIOS software. You may have to update your BIOS to remove this issue. Also, some intrusion switches work on grounding a signal through the switch to show the machine is closed, by removing the switch, you have removed this signal, hence the bios will show the intrusion all the time. Try refitting the switch and taping it closed.

It is not unusal for capacitor/s to blow their tops and could emit flames and smoke as the power supply ages. When they blow they could damage other components. Don't bother trying to replace them, get a new power supply.

when you look at the rear part of your system unit, or even when you open the CPU Casing, you will see whether or not you have the Video card and Sound card. When you see expansion card inserted in the motherboard where your monitor's VGA cable is connected to, then you have a video card (external) but if your monitor connects to a VGA port which is connected to the motherboard, then you have an internal or built-in video card.

Sound cards are tested in similar ways but you have to look for the 3 holes (jacks) with color pink, green and yellow where you connects to your speakers and mic. if you look insode the CPU and a card is inserted there having those 3 ports, then your sound card is external, otherwise if it is directly connected to your motherboard then it is built-in sound card.

Software wise you will know what devices you have in your system.
Right click "My Computer" then click Properties
Click Hardware then click Device manager

for the inbuilt speakers on the monitor you should see a plug in on the back part of the monitor that would fit a similiar plug that goes to your sound on the computer. you need a cord to from there to your computer. Second do NOT spray anything near the dvd rom as it may cause the dvd rom to stop working. first step is to make sure the dvd's are perfectly spotless when you use them as it may effect the rom working properly.

Connect the LCD monitor to the Computer then open the Sound properties to check for the selected sound device.

Try changing the output sound device to other available one.

Download and install the drivers in the Computer.

If the issue persists, then try installing the drivers in the SAFE MODE.

While an Operating System is in the Safe Mode, it will have reduced functionality, but it is easier to isolate problems because many non-core components are disabled.

Restart the Computer and press the F8 key when the Accer logo appears to start the Computer in the Safe Mode.

some of the os files must be corrupted.Go to safe mode and scan ur computer and boot in normal mode.

if you you to the website of the ethernet card you can download the driver there easly done keep me posted please regards mike
