The best thing to do is look at the owners manual and it will explain how to unlock the key pad
or have him press the fuction key followed by F1 through F12 , one of those will unlock it ...

Hello abeebissa, First try hitting the FN(function key) + numlock, if that didnt help try FN + F11(have heard some models use this instead) If that doesnt work you can go to Programs>Acer >Acer eRecovery Management choose "yes" at the prompt then, a window gives you the options to Backup, Restore, Settings, or Help. Click on Restore. This will give you a choice of Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults, Restore Operating System and Retain User Data, or Reinstall Drivers or Applications. Pick Operating System and Retain User Data. Just follow instructions from there.

Locate the Blue Function key, generally denoted (fn) You need to hold this key while press a key with blue functionality for it to work.

I had the exact same problem. I contacted Acer support and they sent me this solution that worked for me;

Please do the following steps to resolve this issue.
1. Click on Start > RUN
2. type intl.cpl in the Run box, and then press ENTER.
3. On the Languages tab
4. Click the Details button.
5. In the Settings tab, under the Installed services section, click the Add button.
6. In the Input language list, click the language that you want; English (United States) [or English (Canada)].
7. In the Keyboard layout/IME list, click United States-International, and then click OK.
8. In the Settings tab, under the Default input language section, change the language to English (United States) - United States-International [or English (Canada) - United States-International].
9. Click the Apply button and then the OK button.
10. In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click the OK button to close the dialog box.
11.Notice that the Language bar appears on the taskbar. When you position the mouse pointer over it, a ToolTip appears that describes the active keyboard layout; English (United States) appears [or English (Canada)].

The hinge is probably out of place. try removing it gently and then fix it again by press it back.

Let me know the outcome

If it will not snap back on i am assuming the retainer is broken or missing. Carefully remove another key that you typically do not use such as the one between right alt and control. You will see what an unbroken corretly placed retainer should look like. If the retainer for your x key is lost or broken you may remove the retainer for the key you just removed and your x key should go right back on. If you can find the old retainer or it has come undone, simply reinstall it identically to the working key used for comparison. If there is no internal damage to the key, this should fix your problem.
If you wish to replace it altogether or would like to fix the key used to repair the damged key, you may order replacements for 3-4$.

Check to see if your num lock is on. There should be a key that says "Num Lock". Press that and the FN key to turn it off.

You have the language set wrong on your keyboard.
Try pressing ALT-SHIFT and then see if SHIFT 2 gives you an @
Otherwise, yu may need to install the English US keyboard layout because right now it looks like you are on English Canadian (possibly french) layout.

If your keyboard always skips certain letters, I would suggest replacing the keyboard if it's a laptop.
A desktop keyboard can be taken apart and cleaned.

Try and restore the PC to an earlier set date and if this wont solve then the possible problem can be related to a hardware issue. The easier way out is to USE AN EXTERNAL MOUSE. You can buy an inexpensive USB mouse or a wireless mouse accordingly which can be cheaper than attempting to repair the PC.

The function of letters into the keyboard is to type the specific letters and do what are the commands given to the computers.

Because if the letters on the keyboard without its functions, it is useless.

u might have turned on the number lock by pressing Fn (blue letter) and F11 key turn the number lock off by presing the same keys together . i too have an acer system
