I have an actiontec dsl

I presume you power cycled the device. Sometimes just unplug for a bit and then power on will help. What lights are lit or not lit on that DSL modem ?

It seems that when I try to open my email account

probably not maybe it is time for you to do an audit on what programs you really want and uninstall the rest through programs and features in the control panel next to a defrag on the c drive it all of that doesn't speed things up consider backing everything up to an external hard drive and up grading the hard drive to a solid state hard drive as they are much faster than the disc type

It sounds like, somehow, an antivirus or firewall app is blocking access to those sites. I'd check there, first. Then, if no help, you may have to simply uninstall and reinstall the modem. If you have your manual, reset the modem and follow the steps to install it as if you just bought it. I did a firmware upgrade on my Gt701-wg modem

First, the upgrade may have replaced the default functionality. Second the wireless signal capacity allowabel for most computers requires letting the system aware of the new setup to share signals. The software is on the computer however requirign to adjust the wireless distribution to accept new codes to retain usual fucntionality.

Actiontec Modem Won't Work!

take a wire and carefully touch it to the two attachment points of the copper ring on the left side while it is plugged in. I first froze my system for 15 min then thawed out and touched the wire as instructed and all works fine.

To open the box remove the clear soft contacts on the bottom, should be four. Using a small philips remove them and pull the box in two. Then fix according.

..once you've found your modem you can type "192.168.1.1" into your internet browser. There will be an option for wireless once you're in there.

I have DSL through Qwest and can connect to the

check the configuration of the modem if you can. I do not know the exact model of the modem, could you post it? then with the exact model of the modem you could google it for a Manual, Handbook, or simply good configurations. If the configurations are good, then could be the firmware that is not updated, or in the last case ask Qwest to change your modem for one that works.
A piece of advice don't open it or modify it because you could void the warranty, in case of a change.

I advice you follow the two links below to set up your actiontech router, the links will guide and provide you information on how to go about this,

Can't connect to internet.

Oh ok. then log in to your modem. Do you need help with that?
Once you are logged in, check the wireless settings. See if you have the broadcast SSID turned on and the wireless security settings. In case you have everything configured correctly and still no luck, then reset your modem by pressing and holding the reset button on the back and then connect the power cable (this is called HARD RESET) for 10 seconds to have the default settings. But please write down the username and the password because you will erase your configuration.

Error code 680 when I try to connect to my server

The error 680 means There is no dial tone. The modem is not detecting a dial tone There are many possible causes of a No Dial Tone Error. 1.Check cable is correctly inserted into back of modem and phone socket 2.Check properties of connection, make sure correct modem is being used 3.Disable "wait for dialtone before dialing" in My Computer > Dial Up Networking > Properties of Connectoid > Configure > Connection > remove checkmark under call preferences 4.Try removing fax machines or other devices connected to the line 5.Make sure no one is using the telephone when trying to connect

I have a dsl modem and an actiontec gt701-wg gateway

Yes this is a normal method to setup a wireless network.
To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps :-
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router.

WEP code error

If you're using 64-bit WEP Key, it would usually require you to put in 10 digits from 0-9 and A-F. so if you're putting in your wep key, make sure it's using only the characters 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, A,B,C,D,E,F.
