I just have had my new dehumidifier running since Friday and when started the humidity said 60,went down and checked it today and it still says 60,I have it set for 40,is this unusual after two days?

If your dehumidifier is working it will be extracting water from the atmosphere, into a container that will or should need emptying fairly regularly. If it is working ok it isn't necessarily going to significantly reduce the humidity in the room as most rooms are connected to the outside world in a number of ways...

I have a Garrison dehumidifier model # 1028311. I get a EC on control panel. I checked temp of room and it is 60 degrees in room. Sometimes it will trip the breaker. what do I do about this?

You need to check that actual amp draw of the unit. It could be the unit has an issue or you have a breaker that could be failing. Unless I know what the actual amp draw is, I can't tell you where to start looking

Opinions on lowering fan speed to obtain lower humidity .

It will help as long as you have enough airflow over the coil to prevent it from icing over. The longer the AC runs the more moisture it can remove. However, before you change the fan speed be sure Saturation is correct. As I hinted too low of a fan speed can also have repercussions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtYgi9wKTcQ

Dehumidifier Problems and Dehumidifier Troubleshooting

If you have a dehumidifier that is not working correctly you have many things that could be causing it not to work. Here I will give some of the common reasons why it could be giving you problems.

0ebf56c.jpg
  1. The coils in the back are frosting up.

The dehumidifier works by drawing the room air over a very cold coil. The trick is to keep the coil as cold as possible to make it pull water out of the air by making it condensate on the cold coil. If this coil becomes too cold, then the water freezes on the coil. The freezing can happen if the air temperature in the room is too cool and does not keep the coil warm enough. Raising the humidifier up off of the floor onto a table can help. The air temperature is often a bit warm the higher up you get. Make sure that the filters are clean if your unit has one. Restricted air flow will make the problem worse. Providing more heat to the room will help also. Most units will not work in a room with temperatures below 68 degrees F.

  1. There is no air moving over the coils.

This can happen if the fan motor becomes stuck or burns out. If it becomes stuck you can sometimes get it running by working a lubricant into the bearings. WD-40 first, and then a good motor oil. If the motor burns out it will need to be replaced.

  1. The indicator light is on and the unit will not run.

This shows you that the bucket is full and needs to be dumped. If your unit is working correctly and the air is very damp you may only run a few hours before the bucket becomes full. This also can happen if the bucket is not seated in it’s spot correctly. There is a little switch that will not let the unit run if the bucket is not place exactly right.

  1. There is no water being produced.

This can happen if the air is very dry and no water can condensate from the air. Check the coils to see if they are cold to the touch, actually they should be very cold, like almost freezing. If not then the refrigeration system of the dehumidifier has gone bad. To repair that you will need a person certified to work on refrigerant systems with specialized equipment. In many cases the costs to repair the refrigeration systems will more than the cost to replace the whole unit.

This should give you a brief overview of the problems that you can have with a dehumidifier and some of the things that you can do to help get things working.

I owned a Keystone in the past. loved it. just purchased 2 more. NOW - for some reason - they don't shut off when bucket is full. will actually OVER fill and leak. how fix ?

Dehumidifier typically use a float in the collection bucket to detect water level and automatically shut it off once it's full. Have you checked to see if the float is broken or missing? Also sometimes it can get stuck ir jammed up when inserting the bucket, make sure its in place and falling freely down into the bucket.

How do you set dehumidifier to get moist out of the air?

Not many people use dehumidifiers in the middle of the winter; Are you in a warm weather state? The dehumidifier should have a moisture percentage control. Simply dial it to the desired level. I would suggest setting it to 50% and checking your reservoir in a few hours for any water. Do you have a humidity gauge so that you can see what is the current room condition of humidity? I would be happy with 50%, but you may need something different. Good luck.

Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers have a tank in the bottom to catch the water that it removes from the air. This is usually accessed from the back. There is a float switch that hangs in the tank similar to that which is in a toilet tank so that when it gets full, it won't overflow. If this tank is full or if this float or it's associated switch got damaged by someone mishandling the tank while removing it, it will keep the unit from turning on thinking that the tank is still full. Good luck.
