It's the sensor from tray fault. Try to blow with air spray to sensor, maybe is dirt with paper dust and need clean.

Hi, unfortunately you cannot use an Apple printer to work under Vista. Apple use proprietary software which is simply incompatible with windows any version, also there are NO drivers except fopr Apple... Sorry about that..

That is the exact behavior the lights show when there's a manual feed print job trying to make it through the printer. Any chance you have a print queue active that has a hung job in it for the manual feed? Before throwing it away, at least put some paper in the 'multipurpose' tray to see if anything prints.
The manual suggests that all lights will stay on solid if service is needed, and since it will print startup pages, it shouldn't be the paper transport.

I had the same problem when I got a new computer with Vista. I just went through the available 600 DPI printer drivers until I found one that worked ok with the 12/640 printer. The driver I used was the Samsung 6000 PS. I have had no problems with it.

Make sure the Media Type setting matches the paper or media loaded. Also, the Halftoning and Color Adjustment Mode options may be set incorrectly for your document type.
For vertical banding, rough or grainy images run the Print Head Alignment utility to align the print heads for precise vertical lines. If the image does not contain the colors you expected, the color settings on your application software may need adjustment. Refer to your software documentation for help on adjusting colors.
the print head nozzles may be clogged. From the Utility section found in the apple printer driver, clean the print heads by performing a head cleaning followed by printing a nozzle check pattern. A head cleaning and nozzle check MUST be performed as a cycle. After printing a nozzle check, examine the printed dot pattern. Each staggered horizontal and straight vertical line should be complete, with no gaps in the dot pattern. If there are gaps in the dot pattern, continue with another cycle. Performing up to 6 cleaning cycles is not uncommon if the print heads are severly clogged.
If the nozzle check prints completely, and you're still experiencing a problem, make sure you are using the most current version of the printer driver. You can obtain the latest printer driver from the apple web site. The resolution of your image may also be set too low. Increase the image resolution using your image-editing software, or decrease the size of the image.

Really only two things cause this issue. The fuser or the drum.

I would replace your cartidge...if that does not resolve the issue...look to your fuser as the culprit.

I have no life. :P ) From page 25 of the manual: "The printer takes a minute or two to warm up, and then it automatically prints a startup page. It prints the startup page every time you restart unless you turn the startup page off using either the Apple Printer Utility for the Mac OS or the Apple LaserWriter Utility for Windows. See Appendix A for details on these utilities." From page 249 of the manual: "Appendix A - Setting the Printer Default Settings" "Though the printer itself has no control panel, you can configure it by using programs on computers connected to the printer: - On Mac OS?based computers, use the Apple Printer Utility and the desktop printer?s setup function." So the answer is YES, you CAN setup the printer to not print the test page, but you have to use the setup utility on your computer to do so. Opening the Apple Printer Utility (From page 251) "The Apple Printer Utility has two windows: the Printer Selector window, which is similar to the Chooser, and the printer features window, which you use to view or change the printer?s settings." 1. As the paper-feed rollers get older, the rubber on the rollers gets slick and won't grip the paper anymore. Try buffing the rubber rollers with some fine sandpaper and see if that allows the machine to pick the paper up once again. Check if the fan on the Op panel side of the machine is running. Ensure the intake on left hand side of machine isn't blocked. Ensure rear vent on right hand back of machine is not blocked.

Have you set up the printer to print wireless? If so, if you have the computer and printer setup to work together, you should be able to turn the printer on and leave it on and print one job at a time. After it prints one job, it will stop and just be ready and waiting for you to send the next job. No need to turn off between jobs.

Was the monitor turned off separately from the computer? The monitor does have it's own on/off switch. If it's all connected to a surge protector both would normally turn off at the same time.

I suggest connecting the ethernet port on your Mac to the router and the router to your printer. You don't mention what printer you have (that would have been helpful) but I'm assuming it is networkable. Otherwise bypass the router and use a USB cable to connect it directly to your Mac in the usual fashion.
