if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll to sound video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio volume advanced speakers make sure you have selected the (appropriate speakers) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have selected the correct speaker settings there
click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
if you dont have a motherboard disk you will have to download the drivers

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause this problem
follow the troubleshooting procedure a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly
a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working hope this helps also it could be a dirty computer clean all of the dust from your computer you could use a vacuum cleaner but whatever you use make absolutely sure there is no moisture gets to anything in your computer
also check the Cmos battery and computer ram make sure they are securely seated

make sure that the cd rom is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the cd drive including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd rom then plug them back in or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver,roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programsClick on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete After deleting the keys, close the registry editorReboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned.
