I have an Averatec 4100
You don't say if the system will still boot up, or if the Hard Drive is still intact or what happened that you want to restore to the factory settings.
If the hard drive is still OK, you may be able to restore the original software by pressing f4 repeatedly on a power up reboot, before the Windows system starts loading (a 3200 uses f4 on boot-up to access a hidden partition (D:?) on the hard drive which may contain the original system files and applications. The 4100 may not be the same.)
If you have modified the drivers, you may be able to restore the original drivers by going to "My Computer" icon on the desktop, and right clicking to open the "system devices" menu. There, you can open "properties" for any devices (hardware) that you may have changed, and try to restore to the previous driver.
If you need new (original) drivers, you may download them from:
http://www.trigem.com/us/support/drivers.asp
The user manual for your system is available at:
http://www.retrevo.com/d/ds/progress?doc=620637ea9665f6ec226b353b2ed6df5e&rk=0.5734748288133472
Other options, such as a recovery CD is available for a small fee at:
http://www.user-guides.co.uk/cddownload/Averatec/Averatec4100/Averatec-4100-Data-Recovery-Boot-Disk-CD-For-Windows-98-548371.html (you have to follow the instructions to download a .iso image file, and burn it to a CD, which may be a challenge for you if you have not done that before).
If these options don't work, or you need help, provide some more information on what happened to your laptop and what is not factory any longer.

I put a dvd on
The only thing to do there if you have tried everything to get it out..is to remove the disc drive and take it apart...
but this is a strange 1...i,ve never worked on a computer where,s it,s swallowed up the disc...only if the disc drive is stuck in the closed position.....
Or remove the disc drive, give it a gentle taop on the top...then near the bottom of the opening you should see a small hole to put a pin in it ,to manually open the drive...try that a couple of time rarther than opening the drive up...
Hope this help...if it does then please rate it and if i can be anymore help..
Regards

Install a webcam software in your computer - there are several - use Google to search. Check with the Averatec website if they have one for your webcam to download and install. Also, you can access the webcam through the Control Panel with Window's generic application.

I have a 3700 laptop;
If the crackling noise comes from the place where you plug in the power cord, try wiggling it and see if it moves too much or it's firmly attached. It may be a problem of a detached power socket, in which case you'll need to resolder the power plug on the motherboard.
If the crackling noise sounds like a metal-on-metal clicks and comes from the hard drive area, then you're hearing "the click of death" which means your hard drive is about to die. In this case, get a 2.5 inch IDE/ATA hard drive USB enclosure, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and copy the data onto a good hard drive.
If the crackling noise is more like hissing high pitch noise and comes from the center of the laptop or close to where the vents are, then you may be looking at a motherboard failure, more specifically a poor contact of the FSB chip. This can cause all sorts of issues, and your description might just be one of them.
Take a look at this post for troubleshooting and repairing a motherboard with a bad FSB chip.

No sound from lap top
It could be a problem with its sound drivers, try checking if it has sound drivers, right click on my computer, properties, hardware, device manager. from the list of devices you see, try and locate you sound drivers, i bet there is some yellow mark on these drivers meaning that you need to re-install them.

Those two wires are the antenna for you wireless receiver card. You can connect them back to the card with any method you see fit. You could take old wires off of any old laptop and splice them (and tape or insulate that) then push the tabs back on the posts or you could tack-solder. (don't use much heat) You just need to get them on there for reception purposes. Good luck...

When you add "labour", it's probably more expensive than buying a brand-new computer.
