first of all did you plug your speakers into the green connection in your printer.. are your speakers on and the volume on your speakers turned on ?? I know this sounds stupid check these things first. then go into your control panel and choose sound and make sure the speakers are not on mute and turned up via the computer. sometimes there will be a speaker icon down where the time is on the left side on teh start bar

It's always possible to open up a speaker, and unless it's glued together, you might be able to without damaging it. Good chance that your driver has acted up. You will need to uninstall the software for the audio card and then reinstall. Also, make sure your volume is up!

Before taking things apart I'll be very surprised if someone has the same speaker system in bits somewhere An electronics guy would trace the wire back to it's source to decide what it's being used for.
