I've heard that with canon there is a way around the ink-level chip monitoring on the cartridge by doing the following:

Hi, I had the message waste ink near full for a while and I could get it to print but now the whole thing is jammed up. As far as I'm aware the error message 343 means waste ink tank is full!! I understand there is a routine to reset this issue and the ink pads may not be full. I don't mind if a bit of ink spills over, I would just like to get a bit more life out of the machine. I've seen some routines for other canon printers but not for the MP730. And Canon won't tell on their support line!! Any ideas

I had this error show up and I replaced ink cartridges. The message remained on my printer. I cleaned printer head and still have the same problem. I am considering buying a printer head but worry that I the machine may not work due to not being able to "RESET" my printer.
Any ideas before I make another purchase?

I can tell you what I did.
I came up with this "wrong cartridge" problem today, searched around the web -- there are a number of ideas -- and then started off on my own.
Perspective: I bought this MP730 in 2003 and have been filling the same set of ink tanks since then. Never had a problem with that. Don't know offhand how many pages I've printed, but I refill the ink every couple of months.
What I did...
I removed the ink tanks and the print head. The print head area was all gunked up with ink as well as the flanges the print head sits on (still in the printer). I DID NOT dunk the print head in water. Something in me says water and electronics is not a good thing. The refill ink package I buy comes with printhead and cartridge cleaner -- smells like alcohol, but who knows. I used that and a combination of Q-tips and kleenex to clean any ink away from the print head and nearby surfaces. I also dripped some cleaner into the print head holes the ink tanks plug into and then dried off the whole print head assembly. I purposely did nothing else. That way, I'd know if I'd found the solution.
I put everything back together and fired it up. The printer cycled itself, removed the "wrong cartridge" message and stood ready for me to print. Finished, right??? Not so fast.
I printed out a Windows test page.....it was totally blank!!! Pause....printed out 2 more.... blank... Uh-Oh.
So, I lifted the lid on the printer, lifted the print head lever, jostled the print head a little to ensure good contact, put everything back together and printed another Windows test page....PERFECT!!!
Note: some writers mentioned cleaning a switch off to the right in the printer. I looked at that area and it IS pretty gunked up. But I didn't touch it to clean it up. That way I had a better idea of what DID fix it. I left it gunked. Of course, maybe all I really had to do was wiggled the print head and put it back together. But at least my print head is clean now. ;-)
So, that's all I did. Don't know if it wil help you, but it's a start.

I have a Canon MulitPass MP730. The LCD display is stating "wrong cartridge". I have installed all new correct cartridges and tried to reseat the print head, the error does not go away. Any ideas as to what is wrong or is it worth repairing?

It's worth repairing, That error on a Canon is saying that the printhead is bad, not your cartridges. The part number for your printhead is stamped on the side of the printhead could be QY6-0049-000 but I'm not sure.

Hi, Canon MP730 won't print at all (blank pages) after the paper was pulled out while printing (about a half of the page was printed). Tried Head Cleaning/Refreshing/Aligning - nothing worked. Please help. Thanks, OB.

I have cleaned the printer head. still get the 'wrong cartridge' message

Try reseating the printhead. Remove the ink cartridges, lift up the lock lever and then pull the printhead out at an angle (IIRC). Then reinsert the printhead and lower the lever. Then reinsert the ink tanks one by one; Press down until you hear the click. Close the scanning unit and hit Set to print the alignment page. Tell the printer which line in each column has the best print quality (most solid); this is the horizontal alignment. Then repeat for the vertical alignment.
Try resetting the printer (on/off cycling). If this doesn't work, you may need a new printhead. Unfortunately, this may not solve the problem and you may need to have the unit serviced. Printheads are not returnable once you install them (so if replacing it doesn't help, you are stuck with the spare.)
Good luck. I hope this helps.

i have tried every maintenance test in the book on my heretofore wonderful MP700. it, however, will print only cyan-heavy stripes in any graphic areas. the print seems to come out fine, regardless of color, tho it is not always accurate in match to that on screen, but this blue-stripe business is driving me crazy. i do a LOT of amateur invitation-type work and use a lot of graphics. on the Print Head Alignment test, Columns L and M choices were striped all the way from -3 to +3, black and dark red alternating. PLEASE HELP ME! DO I NEED A NEW PRINT HEAD? A NEW PRINTER??

I had the same problem. My 4 year old MultiPASS MP700 started banding magenta stripes across everything I printed.
I suspected the cyan printhead was clogged because the printhead tests showed two of the cyan columns as half missing.
Canon was less than helpful. I went off of my suspicion that I needed a new printhead. I found one from an online supplier for 50 bucks...better price than a new printer! I put the new print head in and it works like new.

Some days i want to throw this all-in-one out of the window. I try to send a fax, and i keep getting the same error message, "TX function was not completed" Nothing changes from day to day when this occurs. I've tried adjusting the TX start speed to all different levels, and nothing seems to work. When I CAN send a fax, there are NO problems, but on a day I can't, i can try to re-send it 20 times and it keeps saying the same thing, i've tried re-setting the machine, I don't know what else to do!

Printer not functioning. Error message = 'Wrong Cartridge." I've taken the cartridge out and replaced it and the message does not go away.

I have the multipass mp700 and have just experienced the same message ..... wrong cartridge. After reading the manual, from the disc, it means that there's something wrong with the print head, most likely needs cleaning, but it won't clean because the printer is sending a malfunction message. I will be trying to clean the head and if that doesn't fix it then I'll buy a new print head. Good luck with the problem.
