Laptop motherboard repair components
The best way to find the part you need is search around for the board manufactures name. Then goto there web site. You may be able to download technical data right off the manufactures web site.
Over heating is a big problem with lap tops. You never want to place your laptop on a soft surface when its on. A soft surface blocks the fan from extracting heat from your laptop , resulting in a over heat and eventually failure. You want to place your lap top on a hard surface when its on. This will provide ample room for your fans to cool your lap top efficiently. You can also purchase a laptop docking plate. It not only is a hard surface but also it has its own fan to increase the cooling capability of your laptop.
Presario x6000 will not power up
ok so power adapter has been ruled out as the problem.
lets rule out the battery pack as the next usual suspect. simply deattach the battery and plug the computer to the ac with the adapter and see if the computer turns on. if it does, replace the battery
do you get any beep codes by any chance? do you see any lights on the
computer itself?
how do you know that it overheated? did you see smoke? where you
watching the movie while the bottom of the computer was not being
ventilated?
if no lights come on your problem is more serious as it could be the a blown capacitor in your motherboard or a loose power adapter (which a computer repairshop /electrician could replace or resold for you for a fee) or the cpu that has gone out in which case means you need to replace your computer and sell the laptop for parts in kijiji.
I have a compaq presario
The reason is because when the laptop is placed on the bed the cooling vents are blocked and the CPU overheats and shuts down. When the laptop os placed on a flat surface there is sufficient clearance between the bottom of the laptop and the flat surface of the desk to provide sufficient air circulation.
If you wish to use the laptop in bed then place the laptop on a flat surface and not let the bed clothes cover the laptop's cooling vents.
My compaq presario is not charging and I bought a
common problem, power cord gets pulled on accidently, causes plug inside computer to pull loose from the motherboard.will need to disassemble, then usually just touching the connections with a soldering iron to remelt them is enough to fix it,leave this to qualified tech.or if under warranty then send for repair hope this helps ,aloha from maui todd0708

Hi there. As par of the troubleshooting try to reisntall video driver to make sure that theres is no software issue. Boot up the computer and go to BIOS setup by pressing F1 or F2 key. If these horizontal lines are still visible at Bios setup then this could be LCD issue. You need to have your LCD replaced.
My X6000 show vertical strips all along in the LCD
It could possibly be the video driver for the machine.
It could also be a loose connection between the screen and the motherboard.
Is this a consistent problem?
If not, when do the lines appear and for how long?
Can I get a presario to boot vga output only?
Yes you can go ahead and use an external moniter to use your notebook but reformating would not help. try to go to HP.COM nad get the graphis driver and bios updated still if its the same you need to contact HP and they would take it for repair, however if it is not in warranty then they would charge you, for repair, since the graphics card is always embedded with the motherboard it will not be possible to replace it on your own. you can also check the repair prices in local stores.
Video is sporadic. Will work at first but if any
This Presario uses the 256 MB dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon X600 Video Display card according to the manufacture's website. Also this system came from HP with Windows XP or Windows Vista.
This may be a driver issue. Dealing with video driver issues can be difficult, but there are tools that can help.
If you are using Windows, boot into Safe Mode by pressing the "F8" key during initial startup. You will be presented with the option screen with many choices. Pick Safe Mode without networking.
After a second, Windows will boot into Safe Mode. From there go to the Control Panel and then to Add Remove Programs (XP) or Programs (Vista & Windows 7). Find the program(s) from ATI including
- ATI Software Uninstall Utility
- ATI Catalyst Control Center
- ATI Display Driver
These may prompt you to reboot after each removal, please select a manual reboot, or reboot at a later time.
Once all the ATI items have been removed, restart the computer. The system will reboot and it will load a generic driver. The screen may look different as the resolution has changed. This is normal.
Go to Softpedia and download Driver Cleaner to finish removing the drivers as they are still cached in the system. The link is here at http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Driver-Cleaner-Professional-15.shtml
Install and run this tool to finish the removal of the cached ATI Driver files. The screen may flicker, this is normal.
After completing the installation, restart the machine again.
When the reboot has completed go to ATI to obtain the latest driver here at:
NOTE: If you are using Vista, please make sure to obtain the correct driver for the 32 bit or 64 bit operating systems. This information can be found by right clicking on "Computer" in the Start Menu, then selecting "Properties". Once this is up there will be displayed the related information on your system. Look specifically for "System Type" and it will read "32-bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System"

Select the Catalyst Software Suite. It is a large file and will require time to down load. Save the file to the computer. Once you have it you will need to run it. Installation will run then ask to reboot.
Reboot your system.
You may notice again the screen flickers. This is normal and the machine may also be slow for the first few mins after reboot. After a few minuets have passed you can adjust the screen resolution by right clicking on empty space on the desktop and selecting "Properties" (XP), then the "Settings" tab or "Screen Resolution" (Vista). The factory specs for the Presario are WXGA+ (1440x900) max resolution.
After adjusting resolution I suggest going to getting the latest version of DirectX (DX 9c Feb 2010) from Microsoft here at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en
This may also be a large file depending on what the installer needs and will require time to download.
This should complete the driver installation.
The Driver Cleaner tool can be removed now form the computer.

I get one beep code when starting up
One beep is good! Everything is ok, that is if you see things on the screen. If you don't see anything, check your monitor and video card first. Is everything connected? If they seem fine, your motherboard has some bad chips on it. First reset the RAM module/s and reboot.
I have Presario X6000 keyboard problems
Hello,
it is doing so because of the faulty keyboard ..pls see the backspace button is stuck or not ..you can clean the keyboard by removing it ..
Thank You
Laptop wont stay on longer than approx 3 seconds.
if the switch at least starts the laptop.. then it is not the switch
check that you can boot the pc with the battery pulled out of the laptop and the power supply plugged in...
if this works then you need a new battery
if this does not work.... then the motherboard or the power adapter plug maybe the issue.. is the plug on the side of the laptop solid... or sloppy fitting..
if solid then the motherboard cpu and memory are the suspected components next..
is there beep noises during boot for the three seconds that occur???
