Hi i have a compaq m2000 that boots up to the

The fact that it boots up to the logo screen can be a good thing ..It means that in general it do not have a fault ..but probably the hard disk is either missing or ..it is faulty ..or the operation system is corrupted and need to be reinstalled..My advice in case you do not have a recovery partition for it ..either a recovery disk ...(came with the laptop from the seller ) ..you will have to download a image with the operation system you want..and burn it into a boot-able disk ..and after that boot from the disk and install the operation system from scratch ..This will work in case there is nothing wrong wit it but the operation system damaged or missing ..If you have a sata hard drive ..you also have to get into BIOS setting by pressing F10 ..(or the key indicated..) and look to the settings of the hdd and if it is on ahci mode..you have to disable it and use the sata as ide or ide compatible ..in order to make it work and see the hard disk ..Usually when it is stuck on the logo screen there are some advices writen on the screen ..take a look cause there can be nothing wrong but you need to press F1 to get to the bios settings ..and than f10 to save the settings and continue to windows..This will be the most happy scenario and if this is the case..it means either the hdd have some issues and you will have to confirm the action with f 1 on every boot or ..it's bios battery is dead and you need to set-up the date and time before getting to windows ..In case non of these will work ..it means the hard disk is corrupted and you need to change it and reinstall the OS l;et me know what you have tried and how it works ..or what exactly does ..and says on screen ..

How do i reboot a presario

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.Next - to check if the harddrive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and fileson this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Hp pavillon dv2000 line on computer

Find out if the problem is the graphics chipset, or the LCD screen.Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, plug a VGA monitor into the VGA port on the Pavilion dv2000 series of Notebook PC.1) The VGA port is on the back of the laptop. Looking at the back of the laptop, it is the second port from the Left.Example of a VGA connector, (On laptop it is a Port), and a VGA cable,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connectorThe VGA monitor can be a CRT, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor with a VGA cable. The VGA monitor will now just be referred to as External Monitor.Monitor plugged into the laptop, turn the monitor on. Wait a few minutes if it is a CRT monitor.Turn the laptop on.The external monitor should automatically show the graphics of the laptop. If not press, and hold down on the Fn key, (Bottom row of Keyboard, second key from the Left. The Windows key is to the right of it ), AND at the same time tap once on the F4 key.If graphics do Not show up on the external monitor, press, and hold down on the Fn key, and tap the F4 key once more.[ Your laptop has at least three functions for this Hotkey. (F4) {Also known as Display Toggle-Over key} 1) Laptop internal display Only.2) Laptop internal display, and external display. (In this case, a monitor. A Projector can be connected here also)3) External (VGA) monitor Only ]A) Does the external monitor have this line going through it also?Yes? Problem is with graphics chipset.B) No? Problem is with screen Inverter, or LCD screen.Primer:An LCD screen cannot produce light by itself. It needs an additional light source.A Backlight is the additional light source.A Backlight is a CCFL.Cold cathode Fluorescent Lamp.Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.A screen Inverter is a small circuit board that converts the electricity from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.(Too broad a statement. There are some laptops that their LCD screen, does not receive power through the Inverter. Their power is derived from the Video Cable only )90 PERCENT of the time the fault is the InverterThis is an example of a screen inverter, for an HP Pavilion dv2000 series of Notebook PC,http://www.nylaptopparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=91_96&products_id=200Click on the image to enlarge. (Size is approximately 1/2 inch tall, by 4 inches long)Make a mental note of the price. This is an average price. You may also find a better price. This is an example of a replacement LCD screen,http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/HP-Compaq/PAVILION~DV2000/A1) Without a sensitive multimeter, (Read expensive), you do not have a way to test the Inverter.IMHO I would replace the screen Inverter, and see if this repairs the problem. If it does not, then an LCD screen replacement is next.B1) If the line is on the external monitor, you have a graphics chipset problem. With most laptops a motherboard replacement is the easiest option, however it is the MOST expensive option. It has been found that the HP Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, have a graphics chipset problem. It isn't the graphics chipset, per se, it is the mounting of the graphics chipset to the motherboard, AND the inefficient cooling for the graphics chipset.Primer:Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.Integrated Circuit,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuitThe graphics chipset is the GPU. Graphics Processing Unit,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPUUse GPU-Z to find out what exact GPU your laptop has.I do know that it uses Intel GMA 950 for graphics, which is usually paired up with one of Intel's Core2 mobile chipsets,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Core.2FCore_2_mobile_chipsetsThe graphics chipset is mounted to the motherboard with a BGA surface mount.Ball Grid Array. To explain a BGA surface mount, let me compare it to the Intel Pentium 4 processors, that used a Socket 478 processor socket. The bottom of the Processor has contact pins. 478 of them. The Socket 478 processor socket has 478 socket holes. With a BGA surface mount, there are no contact pins, and no socket holes.Solder Balls on the bottom of the graphics chipset, take the place of the contact pins.Copper Pads on the motherboard take the place of the socket holes. When installed by the factory, the graphics chipset is set into place on the motherboard, so that the Solder Balls are lined up with the Copper Pads. The chipset is heated to a specific temperature, for a specified length, and the Solder Balls melt. The solders the chipset to the Copper Pads. Solders it to the motherboard.IF, the graphics chipset repeatedly overheats, the solder connections are partially melted, and this makes a bad contact. (Contacts)A video I found that explains the above in more depth,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnkQNmKauEc&feature=pyv&ad=5823851286&kw=DV2000(NOT advertising for this guy, just inserted for the information, and video )For additional questions please post in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette

My Compaq Presario M2000 wifi light is "On", but

While logged into the router, Turn on "broadcast ssid" or tell your computer exactly what the SSID is. One form of security is to set the router not to tell other computers in wifi range what the ssid is.

I have a red line

Sounds like a bad screen - if it's like a line, or lines, either horizontal or vertical. If it's a pixel wide (very, very thin) and it doesn't distort the screen (like displaying a Q like a O) - then it may not even need to be replaced. Most of these M2000's come with 15" XGA screens and the best source of these things is eBay and only tourists pay over $40 for these things :-)

I have a Samsung laptop

It's just a (partial) defect of the screen that'd developed over time - if'it's only a pixel wide (very thin) and it doesn't bother you, then live with it. Otherwise, replace it. Best source for these older stuff (for DIY'ers) is eBay, and a good, used 15" screen - as most M2000's are equipped with - should run you around $40, give or take. Service manuals for most models can be downloaded via HP's support site. Take it to any store and it'll cost you well over $100; take it to Best Buys and we're talking serious money...

After switching on the laptop

Hi neilalwayz...

Start your computer in the Safe Mode.
To start in Safe Mode.
Turn your computer on.
Keep tapping F1 or F8 while the computer is starting up
When the computer starts select Safe Mode
1. Uninstall any softwear you may have put on the computer before the problem started.
2. Do a complete System Restore: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This will bring your system back to a time before you installed the softwear or Microsoft installed drivers, etc.
Note: Just be sure to use a date in a darkened box, that is before your trouble start date.
When you have done the above, restart the computer and if your still having the problem, then the installed drivers, updates, softwear, etc might have
corrupted the Operating System.
If that happened then that means either repair or reinstall the operating system.
You will need to do the following:
1...Repairing the Operating System...
A...You will have to have the Operating Dics that came with the computer.
Note...If you do not have the disks that came with your computer or the ones you should have made when you first got your computer...then you will have to go to the manufacture's webpage and see if they have a recovery disk available for your computer, if they do not a recovery disks available then you can also try ebay to locate the recovery disks.
The original disks will have your product key number that came with the computer, you can also find it on the tower, or under the bottom of your laptop, or maybe the piece of paper that the CD orginally came in may have the number on it.
You can also download a small program and it will tell you your product key number.
Go to the following webpage to download your FREE key finder.
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
B...You will now insert the disc into the CD/DVD player
C...Restart the computer
D...When the window opens that tells you to press "Any" key, you will press any key you want to press.
E...If you do not receive a message that says "press any key to boot from CD", then then the computer is not ready to boot from a cd.
To correct this problem you will have to go into your computer's Bios and change the computer to boot from a CD.
To get into the Bios, shut the computer off, restart, while the computer is starting up keep tapping F1 as the computer is starting up.
When you are in the Bios, select to boot by CD by moving the cursor with the direction arrows on the keyboard.
Once you have selected to boot by cd the exit and restart the computer...the disc is already in the cd/dvd player.
Your system will then boot from the cd.
F...After a minute or less it should ask you if you want to Quit Repair, or Continue.
You will select Repair this time, but you may have to come back here and select Install if the repair does not work.
It will ok the agreement document if it asks you too.
Tap F8 on your keyboard to pass it when ready.
It will ask you if you want to Install, Repair, Delete Partition, or Quit.
Select Repair
Inside the box there will be one or two partitions.
Choose the largest partition.
After you have chosen the largest partition, you will then press the "r" key to start the repair
After the repair is complete, then you will need to restart your computer.
G...Computer Restart
After the repair is complete, shut the computer down (the computer will shut down a few times during the installation of the operating system
that is normal).
Then restart your computer, when the computer restarts it will have a box to put your product key...put the product key in the box and click.
The computer should start up and run as if it was a new computer.
You do not need to re-register
You can now remove the disc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this fails to clear your problem then you may have a hardware problem.
It could be faulty ram
If you still have the same problem, then you have two choices.
1.Reinstall the entire Operating System and you may have to update some drivers.
This will require you to go back to the start of the repair info and select Install instead of Repair.
2..Take your machine in to have the hardware tested.
Keep in mind that if you do a complete reinstall of the Operating System you will lose all the information on the computer, such as pictures, programs, videos, everything you installed will be gone.
Please take time to rate me four thumbs up

From what you describe, you may need to replace the LCD, fortunately, Dell does publish the service manual for their systems on support.dell.com and you can normally find LCDs on EBay for around $100 on most systems.

@tharindupedu

If you see a Vertical/Horizontal colored lines on your LCD, that means either the Video Card, LCD, or the LCD Flex cable (this is the cable that connects your motherboard to your LCD screen) are going bad and needs replacement. You can still use your laptop though but I strongly recommend having it fixed ASAP before it gets worse. You're still under warranty, call HP/Compaq at 1-800-652-6672.

Good luck.

Horizontal straight line on my

Sounds like a pretty straightforward bad screen. If it's only a pixel wide and you can live with it and, more importantly, doesn't distort your screen to the point where a "6" looks like a "0", then ... let it be; if not, most of these M2000 models come with 15" screens which are pretty cheap when it comes to used, working copies. You can probably find them on eBay - just don't pay anything over $40 or $50...
