sherylannie,
does your Compaq Presario SR1435IL have the original FreeDOS, or do you have another OS installed? If you still have the original FreeDOS, I would reccommend upgrading to at least Windows XP, depending how much memory you have in it. If you have the factory 256MB of memory, Windows XP should work, but if it's too sluggish, I'd personally reccomend at least 512 MB, but if you want Windows Vista, my personal opinion would be at least 1GB. Or, if you already have XP, click "Start", then click "Control Panel", then "Printers and Other Hardware", then, on the left, you should see "See Also" and click on the first line that should read, "Add Hardware". Click that and you should be able to follow it from there, just follow the prompts. It isn't all that difficult, if you just know where and what to click. Other than that, if nothing seems to help, maybe you can go to HP's web-site at:
http://www.hp.com/support/chat, or you might have other options available at:
http://www.hp.com/go/assistance. (The only reason I know what little I do, is because I own A Compaq Presario myself, lol. I hope I've been able to help, and if not, try those websites mentioned above.
