A: remove Huge battery first and leave it out until PC runs right again that huge battery is bad , this old, get it out of there then.... 1; ccfl BACK LAMPS DEAD (WOW YOURS WORK) Amazing! 2: the RTC coin cell battery is dead, all are that old or near. and can never be ignored ever if bad as most are past 7 years old 3: hdd is dead. as many are this old the solutions are easy, in a list, a new battery coin, remove large battery it is no good that old too. then reset BIOS via BIOS the test the HDD if it will not boot to HDD0 all PCs fail just like this, all do., from AGE. the silicon chips can go for 50years. never CCF, never batteries never HDD see? some things are what I call weak technology. or get it fixed in a real shop.

which drive was changed NOT TOLD mine has 3 +1 external. changed the boot drive, not told. the new hdd is blank so there is no OS on any hdd. new. 3. make sure HDD boot drive is not full, ever. 3/4 is max, limit it.
4. make sure RAM is not full running, 2 cures, more ram or delete all apps in memory not used, (startups)
5. add more RAm (ddr) OLD PC MAX OUT AT 3.2GB .
6. KEEP fans and vents clean or it overheats and runs slow. all PCs do that never cleaned ever. called normal service.
7. HDD Smart test fails. oops the drive is BAD.
8. all old HDD go slower with age, by SSD and use that.

(safe as can be) next is fans blow. next is LED glow next is see HP splash screen seen for ages, but must be there. at the splash hammer F10 (bios old) 2015 or older. or if newer PC, hammer ESC to see BIOS page one check time and date there and set boot order to USB first , HDD0 2nd. CD last. if loading a new OS from USB memory make USB first if loading same with CD make it first. in boot order. click save , click exit and cold boot PC with install media in place. a dead CD try means loss of power or CD is bad.the drive. or loss of power. totally.
