My built in mouse pad

If still under warranty suggest have it repaired. Most computers out of warranty also have out of date software and are not worth spending funds on. Suggest upgrade to a new machine.

The touchpad on my compaq

First, make sure that the device settings in Control Panel is set properly & that the touch pad is enabled. You might need to check these setting in the Mouse applet in Control Panel.

Next, if you suspect a corrupt driver, uninstall the driver, reboot the computer then re-install it again.

If this did not fix the problem, you might need to disassemble your laptop & make sure that the ribbon cable connecting the touch pad to the motherboard is not broken or loose. In order to do this, you will need to remove the keyboard & check beneath it where a thin ribbon cable connects the touch pad to the motherboard. Also, use an electric contact cleaner spray to clean both the contacts at the end of the ribbon cable & the connector to which the ribbon cable plugs.

If nothing of these helps, the touch pad might be defective & needs to be replaced. You can usually find a cheap replacement on ebay.com. Search with your laptop's make & model followed by the keywords "touch pad", & always buy from a top seller.

While deleting some files , not realizling it I

the touch pad should work even if you erased the files as it uses generic Human Interface Device drivers. Be careful that you didn't accidental disable the touchpad with the Fn+F2 or other Fn key combination(the key that you should combine with Fn has to has a touchpad icon on it) Another posibility is that you have enabled an option to disable the touchpad upon usb mouse connection. Also it would help if you gave me more details about what and where you erased.

How do i turn on touch pad

You probably have a Synaptics Touchpad. What you have to do is look for the Synaptics logo(it's like a white circle on a red background) in your status bar(lower right corner of the scree, neer the clock). Double click that icon. A window called Mouse properties appears. The last tab is Device settings that also has the Synaptics Icon. If you click it you should see a list of all Synaptics devices on your laptop. Since you only have one you will only have one item in the list. Double click that item and a new Properties window will open. You have a list on the left side of that window. Select tapping and make sure Enable tapping is Checked. That should be it.Good Luck!

On my Compaq 6400, the scroll doesn't work, how can i fix it?

You have to download the touchpad drivers. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=ca&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=1847703&prodNameId=1847704&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-58276-1 these should be the ones. If they don't work let me know and give me the entire name on the white label on the back along with the serial number

How can i fix my

The information provided is somewhat limited, however, here are a few things to consider.
1.) Check for a touchpad button located immediately above the touchpad itself. Some laptops have this and some don't. If your laptop has this, try pressing it once since it is the ON/OFF button for the touchpad.
2.) It's possible you're experiencing a settings issue. Rather than trying to weed out the specific issue, it would be much easier to do a system restore and revert your system settings back to when the touchpad worked. Goto Start/All Programs (or just Programs)/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. You want to choose a System Restore date that is BEFORE your issue started. System Restore can take up to 15-20 minutes and should not be interrupted. Just set your oven timer for 20 min and come back after it dings to test your touchpad.
3.) You could have a driver issue. You'll want to check Device Manager for this. In Windows XP, click on Start, RIGHT-click on My Computer, click on Properties, click on the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager button. In Vista, click Start, RIGHT-click Computer, click Properties, click Device Manager (the link in the upper-left corner of the System Properties window). If you see any yellow question marks or exclamation points anywhere in this list, it's likely your touchpad driver needs reinstalled. Check your manufacturers website for the latest driver.
4.) If none of the above work, you may need to replace the touchpad (or just use a USB mouse).
I hope that helps and best of luck!

My touchpad on my compaq

Try cleaning the touchpad off, and if that does not work talk to the place you bought it from about getting a new touchpad installed. However it could be a software issue, restart your laptop and run an antivirus scan.

Touchpad compaq 510 not work How

You more then likely accidently switched it off click the Function Key ( It says Fn on it) this key is in the bottom left corner of your keyboard. Click that key while at the same time up in your top row of keys there should be an image that looks like your touchpad on one of those keys click that key at the same time that you press the Fn key and that should reactivate the touchpad. Let me know if that works out for you.

Dear Technician, While i am

You are probably hitting the touchpad on your laptop with the heel of your hand while you're typing. This will make the cursor move to some other place. It's not really moving by itself; you just aren't aware you're doing it. I would suggest turning off the touchpad while you're typing, and then turn it back on as needed. Compaq computers usually have a switch on the touchpad bezel to turn it off. Some people also plug in a USB mouse, finding it more convenient and comfortable if they want to move around on the document frequently.
