Is it just a replacement of a defective one? If it is, then, you still have the same operating system in it. Put your PC on, and left click, Setting, Control Panel, Systems, Hardware, and finally the Device Manager. You will now see the installed devices/hardware in
your PC. Right click over the sound, audio devices,
and view the status and property of this item. You
will be prompted on what to do next. If you don't get
results, your option is to reinstall the software driver.
If you have the CD for sound/audio software driver,
insert the disc and install the driver. If this is not
available, you can connect to the internet Just type at the search engine blank (Free download for sound/audio software driver) and click over it. Then, follow the instruction for you to get the free download.

Same issue...but only on vista...
If it were me, I would find out if 'ALL' of the drivers are available for XP. If they are, I would then downgrade to XP. I would also let Creative know about the performance problem. They may be able to fix it.

Explanaition:
This delay you are experiencing is called latency. All equipment or signal processing unit introduces some latency even if extremely low.
Computer tends to be a lot worse than outboard gear.
Solution:
Look for Asio4All, this little driver will help you improve your audio input latency. And remember, the smaller the buffer size the lower latency you get.
