REINSTALL THE OPEARATING SYSTEM.SUE ISSUE WILL BE TAKEN CARE

My new black ink cartridge wasn't working at all. I sprayed the cartridge with windex and let soak for a minute. I wiped dry with paper towel and there was black ink on my towel unlike before. The windex unclogged it and it worked like new!

Never install a new operating system for at least 18 months. 55% of people that use Vista are having problems. There is a patch/upgrade for Vista at Dell dated 9/10/2007 There is also a newer driver for Vista dated 4/5/2007.

When you purchased your new laptop did you reinstall all the drivers and software for your printer ?
Did you change operating systems ?

Below are the latest drivers for that printer, make sure you select the correct Operating system ( Windows XP, Vista ect)

Uninstall any drivers currently on it, and install the new ones. See if that helps if not post back for more help. Make sure to add any additional information.

I got the same error. Several searches suggested I clean the silver bar that the printer cartridges slide along with a Kleenex and a little WD-40. I had nothing to lose and it worked like a champ.

All you have to do is use the installation cd that came with the printer. In some cases you only have to plug the USB cable if it has one into the pc and you will be fine.

In the event you dont have the driver let me know and give me the model of the printer and I will get one for you.

When you try to do a copy, the printer has to scan the document into its memory. There is a glass over the read head that is dirty, or if it is a flat bed scanner, you have a problem with the lamp or the read head. Somewhere there is some dirt, or if you use Correct-A-Type, a white stripe on the read area.

Your new printer should have been supplied with an installation disk.

Uninstall your old printer and install the new one.

I have a dell printer A960 with a hardware error: 0502.I have done all the troubleshooting, still the same problem.

The "clear tape" that you are playing with is called the "encoder strip." A barcode is etched on it that tells the printer carriage where it is. If you clean this carefully (google encoder strip for best methods) you may be able to get rid of 502 error for a while.

Not sure about 50c.

Best paper is a about 20lb paper. Make sure you fan the paper to get air between the sheets so it doesn't try to pull multiple sheets at the same time.

Blow out with compressed air (available at office max walmart etc.

Make sure there are no small pieces of paper stuck anywhere in machine

One solution is to replace cartridge snap-down levers  (the levers that snap down inside the dell printer to hold the cartridges, blue for color and black for black). This seemed to have work for several people with the same issue.

1. Switch off the printer using the power button.
   
2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the Lexmark X5150.
   
3. Leave the power cable disconnected for 30 seconds.
   
4. Reconnect the power cable and switch the printer on again.
   
5. When the printer powers up, you will need to select the desired settings.
   
6. If this does not resolve the problem
7. You need to check the encoder strip on the printer. This is a clear strip running the length of the printer, above or behind the cartridge carrier.Its a transparent plastic strip ..Please be very careful with strip if its broken then printer will not work...
   

1. Switch off the printer using the power button.
2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of theprinter
3. Leave the power cable disconnected for 30 seconds.
4. Slide the cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer by taking the top part of the belt and moving it gently to the right.
5. Take out both cartridges.
6. Place an index finger on the encoder strip on either side of the cartridge carrier.
7. On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. Slightly push the encoder strip down and then back up to get it into the slot.
8. Lightly press the strip first to the rear and then forward, if necessary.
9. Clean the encoder strip with a dry tissue. Also clean the contacts of the printer
10. Try to make a copy..

Try cleaning the slider bar  upon which the ink cartridge slides abck and forth -- NOT THE TAPE- the slider bar assembly it self .. It worked for me .

Remove the new ink again. Take a couple cotton swabs, lightly dampen with water. Clean the copper contacts inside the ink holder. Also clean the copper on the ink cartridge. Do not clean the bottom (where the ink comes out). You can wipe this with a lint free clean cloth. Did you remember to remove the protective tape on the new cartridge? Sometimes the tape stays & you have to look close to be sure. There is a firmware update for the A960. Also a good idea to install. You can clear a print job by, click the start button, open printer & faxs, right click on the default printer which should be the A960. Click open, click printer, click Cancel all documents.
