Either the cartridge isn't good - replace it - or the connectors for the chip on the cartridge aren't making contact - take out the cartridge, clean the contacts (the ones on the printing head also) and try again.

My printer is not printing black ink, only in
Try this:
Go to Google Maps, select one and print it out. Does black work then? (On mine it does)
If you try to print an e-mail with both color and black fonts, are the black ones missing from the print? (On mine, the black letters are missing)
How about a scan which contains both color and black features? (Again, both black and color works for me)
And finally, if you scan an all-black font document after hitting "copy...black", you get nothing....but do the same thing after selecting "copy...color"...and it'll print the black.
I'm sorry I haven't found the answer as yet, but maybe if you try some of these little experiments I did this morning, then it'll catch someone's eye and we'll both have a solution (which may cost more than a new printer!

Can't print
Three years unused cartridges might have become really very tough by now. The heads must be clogged and really very hard. Please dip it (cartridge head) in a bowl of warm water (only the head portion), if possible, **** out some of its contents or you can use the refill kit to do some suction job (use soft tissue paper or cotton to wipe off the head after doing this).
I would suggest you to replace the cartridges.
Good luck.

Please let me know if you get anything when you make black printouts (like green or fade blue). Sometimes you need to change the print settings to print the documents only in black color. Awaiting your reply.

Cartridge error c50
It would seem that Dell has a on-going issue with this printer and the cartridge. Try these steps and if it still gives this error you will have to contact Dell.
1. Reseat the Ink Cartridges.
2. Unplug the printer from the back, clean the contacts and the put
back the connection.
3. Verify whether the Ink Cartridges are DELL Branded.
4. Try Cartridges Individually.

Says "NO COLOR CARTRIDGE".
Try this:
According to the Dell website, this is how the cartridges for the Dell
All-In-One Printer/Copier/Scanner Model AIO A940/A960 are supposed
to look like. (see attachments)
Black cartridge P/N: 7Y743 with U-shaped "lump" on the (black) lid.
(equivalent to Lexmark "82")
Color cartridge P/N: 7Y745 with square with corner cutout "lump" on the
(blue) lid. (equivalent to Lexmark "83")
BUT, the black Dell cartridges have the identical corner cutout "lump"
as their color cartridges. In other words, they have the lid from the
color cartridge, but in black instead of blue.
Both cartridges are made by Lexmark and rebranded for Dell. But Dell
made the black cartridge intentionally with a different "lump",
so customers are forced to buy expensive Dell cartridges.
Stupid actually, because now the black and the color cartridges each fit
in the other's slot!
Beat Dell at their own game, don't pay their rip-off prices!
When you open that Dell printer, lift the black lever that closes
over the black cartridge. From the underside of that lever you will
see a small "pin" sticking out, that corresponds with the corner cutout
"lump" (as depicted on the color-cartridge). Cut that pin off with a
sharp knife or a wire cutter.
All of a sudden, the cheaper Lexmark "82" black cartridges fit in (and
any other remanufactured equivalent).
Money in your pocket!

Cartridge error 50C
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Lift the printer's front cover.
NOTE: The ink cartridge should be in the up/loading position unless the printer is busy.
- Squeeze the tabs on the cartridge lids and lift the cartridge lids up. The cartridge pops up when the lid is fully lifted.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Check and make sure that all of the protective tape has been removed from the contacts on the ink cartridge.
- Replace the cartridges.
- Snap the lids closed.
- Close the printer's front cover.
- When prompted on the printer's LCD to choose New or Old, choose Old.
- Press the Select button.
Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks.
Have a good day.
