Dell 1600n All-In-One Laser Printer - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Dell 1600n I replaced the toner and can't get the "replace toner"
After you clear out the print que (double click on the printer icon on your desktop), power down the printer, wait 20 seconds and power it back up. The "replace toner" should clear after the sensor detects toner in the hopper AND the new chip in the toner cartridge registers with the "brain" of the printer. Hope that helps!
Toner say 0%
ensure that the contacts on the cartridge and where they connect to the printer are clean of any toner residue
LSU
LSU refers to the long strip of glass / encoder strip inside the top of the cartridge compartment. It could be dirty or dislodged.
Power off the printer
Open the front cover
Lightly pull out the cartridge and keep it flat
Gently swab the LSU. If part of the LSU is hanging, gently put it back in place and reconnect. Be careful not to touch anything else.
Note: If you are unable to reconnect the LSU, the printer will need service.
Put the cartridge back (again, leave it flat).
Close the front cover.
Power the printer back on.
Hope this helps.
No paper error
There's a little plastice lever type thing that hangs down above where the paper tray is inserted. When the paper tray pops up after being inserted, the paper moves this lever up. This is how the printer knows if there is paper or not. With the tray out, push the little white lever up and see if the "No Paper" message goes away. If it does go away, the lever/sensor is working OK, if not the lever sensor is bad. If that was not the problem, check that the paper tray is popping up after being inserted (look from the back of the device while you insert the tray). If it does not pop up, there is a little white plastic button type thingy on the side of the tray that releases the paper tray to pop up after you insert it into the printer. Make sure that is working correctly. If you flip the pritner upside down, you can see this little white plastic button type thing that should release the paper tray to pop up during the insertion process.
WHITE LINE DOWN CENTER OF PAGE
I guess that you get a white line when you are printing a document or receiving a fax....
The drum unit is scratched and needs to be replaced. Most of these printers have the drum unit as part of the cartridge; thus replacing the toner should solve your problem.
Dell 1600N Displays Scanner Locked
If the lock mechanism is broken as you say it might be, then it will have to be disassembled to be removed. Unplug it, there is high voltage present to run the scan lamp. Be very careful and deliberate while disassembling, you will have to put it back together, or get someone experienced to do it.
Hi. I've a Dell

1600n grinding and jamming
hi....take it to a tech to check about the system control chip... the control chip would have gone bad... and they will replace u with a new chip..or else Try manually moving the head carriage back and forth a few times!
Also check, if there isn't some piece of paper lodged inside, if yes try to remove it carefully!..
these are the possible solutions u can try out...

Trying to fax but message says no answer
Hi,
If its dialing some numbers then its unlikely to be a hardware issue - make sure that the numbers are correctly specified, with the correct area code, international prefix etc and that (if needed), the option to dial a number for an external line is set correctly.
Thanks.
Dell 1600N MF Laser Printer- Blank vertical strip on all prints
you need do follow steps:
1) take out the cartridge find a cover there is the drum inside, the drum you can see the color on the drum surface
2) check out and clean any pieces of paper or dirty waste toner stuck there, because there is a waste toner cleaner on the drum surface which is like a long rubbon strip (something like that) you can spin anyway a little to clean.
3) if you check out any different color (vertical round drum), that is the drum surface worn or scratched. you can see the worn area show light color than normal area.
so you need change it better.
4) if the color all very same and still not fix, you need check again something stuck the drum surface near cleaner rubbon.
hope help you fix it, please take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks! keep in touch your question please.
Overheat message comes on.
First, you need to make sure that you are using the best settings for your printer. Here are a few things to consider:
1) Environment - If this printer is stored in a cabinet, under a desk, on the floor, etc., it is likely that any heat created by the fuser doesn't have room to escape properly. Be sure to give at least an 1.5" clearance on all sides.
2) Power - The parts inside of a printer are all rated to operate using certain voltages. That being the case, you need to use unregulated power (i.e. - wall outlet) to make sure the parts are given as much (and only as much) power as necessary to operate. Using powerstrips rated at different voltages can create either not enough or too much power which could mean the fuser operates at too low or too high of temperatures.
3) Media - Make sure the paper you're using is rated properly for the printer. Most printers accept a certain paper weight (found in the owners manual). Contact Dell if you've misplaced this.
4) This particular printer isn't rated for too high a speed, which means the fuser shouldn't have to run as hot. If you still get overheat messages, you could try updating the firmware on the printer at support.dell.com or even contact their technical support.
