when I turn on & off the power button it moves inside the monitor and now it won't even turn off. The power button needs to be fixed. Any suggestions on how I can do this myself will be appreciated. Thanks, Andy
The last guest left us hanging with, "easy fix" so, I ventured ahead to see what I could see by opening up my lcd, which was a puzzle in itself. After UNPLUGGING the monitor and removing the stand and the 4 obvious screws in the back, turn the monitor onto its back and placing your palms against one side of the monitor, and using your FINGER TIPS, gently pull back the plastic lip away from the LCD screen. Move along the lip, doing this a little bit at a time. You'll hear and feel it snap loose. Repeat on the remaining three sides. It may take a few rotations to free all the sides, doing a little at a time, so as not to put undo stress on the plastic that is not yet loose. The bottom lip from behind which lies the offending "on/off" button will not move as freely as the other sides because of the ribbon cord that attaches the circuit panel to the main body. So STOP pulling when you feel it become taught and carefully turn the monitor onto its face to complete the face's removal. Undo the cloth tape that secures the ribbon cable to the monitor. This will give you the necessary slack you need to do your dirty work. BTW, we're not disconnecting the ribbon cable from its connections- that would be bad - just remove that haphazardly placed piece of tape used to keep the thing snug and save it for when you're ready to close it back up. OKAY! There a four tiny screws that affix the green circuit board. You'll need a thin, jewelers type phillips head or a one from a synthe-sized tool set to remove these. Now, if your issue is like mine, you'll see when you again carefully remove the circuit board, that the on/off button has cracked off of the piece that holds it. This is why the button remained stuck in one positon when it was depressed. Re-align it so that it is uniform to the other buttons and place a few small strips of cut electrical tape to hold it in place to the end where it broke off. Crazy glue or the like won't give the button the flexability it needs and will probably just crack again. What the tape (I layered 3 strips) will do, once the circuit board is scewed back, is allow the button to return to position after it's pushed. I just did this and so far, after a dozen on/offs it's still working. Good luck. Go have a beer.

I had to reinstall my whole operating system and now I cannot install the modem drivers for comcast cable internet on my computer, I could not do this before I reinstalled my whole operating system. When I go to install the drivers it says that my computer meets all of the requirements except for Ethernet, which it says is "not found." Which Ethernet card do I need to get in order to be able to solve this problem and use cable internet on my computer?
You need to install the ethernet card driver of your system,
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn&SvcTag=&SysID=DJ_DIGITAL_MP
hope this solve:
howerver;
If the ethernet is not detected and it is built in to motherboard maybe is damage
If not built in; try to transfere the card to the other slot beside or its equivalent slot.
If not solve the problems;
Time to buy new ethernet card. You can buy any ethernet card for broad band connection.

lsass.exe error insufficient system resources exist to complete the API. what can i do to fix that. thanks I have the same problem in Windows XP but can not get past the error message. It will not start.
Try to boot to the safe mode, when use the splash screen of your system press f8, you will be able to choose there safe mode or safe mode with networking. Make sure that there is no virus or spyware.
Check in Task Manager
and see how much physical memory is being used.
Then check your PF Usage, the problem may be a lack of virtual memory.
Go to System Properties > Advanced and
under Performance Options click Settings. Then click on the Advanced tab and
click Change under Virutal Memory.
-Click Custom size and set
the Initial size to 384MB and Maximum to 768MB.
Then try to reboot and then defrag, reboot again.

I need to connect my dell dimension 2400 PC desktop to my wireless internet connection. I have a my macbook pro connected to the wireless internet and it works fine. I'm using an airport that is connected to my modem. The modem has four slots to plug in more that one internet connection, but will not connect my pc, and laptop at the same time. So is there a way to plug both into my modem at the same time and use the internet on both computers. Or is there a way for my Dell to connect wirelessly and use the airport?
Hi Whitney,
I was able to locate manual and a troubleshooting guide.
Summary: Your modem only supports 802.11b standard, which limits the
throughput to max. 11Mbps (compare to 802.11g = 54Mbps, 802.11n = 108
Mbps). In other words: your connection is only about 10% of the speed
compared to a wired connection via Ethernet cable (100 Mbps). So - if
you can - you should try to use a wired instead of a wireless
connection, but you have to decide what makes is more important to you:
having no cable and you can be away from the modem or the connection
speed.
This also means - and that is in regards to APremkumar's solution -
that you can skip all 802.11n adapters (this would just be a waste of
money). Since you will not find an adapter that only connects to a
class b network, look for something like "802.11b/g".
An example page is here.
You can choose between an internal (PCI card) or external (USB adapter)
solution. Both are ok and the decision depends on the availablity of a
free USB port on your Dell and your comfort of opening the computer
case or not. (You can always come back here and ask for help;-)
If you have any more questions, please let me know - I'm happy to help!

how do you open the case to add memory
there is button at the rear top and rear buttom of the machine. press the button and swing open one side of the machine.
to get to the memories, you have to be very careful about the wiring, it is tight and not much space for you work in. do not lay the machine on its side,

After the Dell login screen my computer wwent blue ans said The windows logon process terminated unexpectedly. How do i fix this without my cd-roms
try this, turn off the computer completely. as soon as you turn on again the computer you will be able to see a screen that shows you the DELL logo, at that screen immediately tap the " F8 " key continuously. if that is successful you should be in the windows advance menu option. use the arrow keys in your keyboard to choose the option of " last know good configuration " and hit enter.
if this doesnt work, try to reinstall the whole operating system including all the drivers. you need to have the operating system cd and the drivers and utilities cd that came with the computer.
but if you are using windows xp then just try this one.
- turn off the computer and let it rest for 10 - 20 secs
- turn on the computer and as soon as you see the dell screen that will flash in your monitor immediately press and hold the " CTRL " key in your keyboard and tap the " F11 " key continuously, if that is successful you will see the dell image factory restore by symantec, choose restore. after that just follow the directions.
(note: if you have files or datas that are important to you then all those files will be lost.)
i hope this helps.

UNMOUNTABLE _BOOT_VOLUME stop: 0x00000ED (0X83797900,0XC0000006,0X00000000,0X00000000)
If it be the connector cable problem then replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable.
If it's a BIOS settings problem then load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.
If it's a damaged file system case then:-
1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.
6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

how do i widen my computer screen to fit the whole screen
There are two causes of an unfilled screen her;
1) Either, you don't have drivers installed that the resolution is set to low pixels or pixels that don't match your screen type (Computer does it automatically if the drivers are installed)
OR
2) You need to set or widen the length and height of your desktop screen using the buttons on it - usually on the front. Let me know how it went so i give you plan B...
