Dell OPTIPLEX GX150 PIII-1.0GHz 256MB 40GB DESKTOP (PCPIII1000DELL256MB) Questions & Answers
Sound problem
My guess is if you try headphones and all is ok , then it might be time for some external speakers to be added as I might be inclined to think that the internal connection or the speakers that are internal are faulty of course this can be fixed but probably at a much higher than simply adding some external speaker set up which can be as little as $10:00 or less up to over $100 :00 for a system surround , but if you are happy with a twin speaker system then I would go foe that option
My computer went back to older clock date as 1610
try starting your computer in safe mode and see if you can do anything productive there, like scanning for viruses or spyware. also check if you can do the following:
CTRL+ALT+DEL (open task manager)
goto Start>Run>Regedit (open registry editor)
goto Start>Control Panel>Display>Properties (change display settings)
right click on clock at tray and change the current time to correct settings
if you cannot do any of these activities, then your computer may probably been compromised by a virus or malware.
Bios date and time problem
You need to replace the cmos battery in your computer. Theu are usually Cr2032 batteries which you should be able to pick up for about £1.
unplug your computer and open the case.
When you look at the motherboard you should be able to easily locate the cmos battery cliped onto the mobo.
Take the old battery out and insert the new one.
put the case back on and plug the pc into the mains again.
You will need to re-enter the date etc the next time you boot up, but the settings should be retained after that.

I disabled the video on my dell optiplex gx150 to
I would open up the case and take the cmos battery out. In addition, look at the motherboard to see if there is a set of jumpers near the battery that say something like clr or clrcmos (I can't tell by looking at the diagram on Dell's site if there is one). If you find 3 pins labeled like that, switch the jumper to the alternate position and then back again after about 15 seconds.
Now replace the battery.
Start the system and see if it works.
Computer locked
There are 2 types of lock i know
1) computer lock at dos asking for password to boot up
reset cmos will do the job
remove power plug and off all power
remove tower side cover
look for a 3 pin or 2 pin cmos jumper and short circuit it.
remove motherboard battery
wait like 5 minutes
fix everything back and your done
2) computer is asking for password at windows login screen
for this problem see if you can login to guest account
then go start
then run
type cmd
type net users [] *
enter the new password
enter the new password again
note
[] means the account name
the password you type will not apper on the screen .

good news the not told at all PC screen is not dead.
a major fact but lacks all evidence like:
1, No PC told no OS told xp to w11
2: fans spin? all do, psu ,cpu and gpu card if fan.
3: Optiplex is a desktop 29 years of models made wow.
4: you mean Dell Splash logo. yes, and then it does the post bar, if post bar stalls that means hardware gross errors.
sadly no PC model told of vast versions. wow.
just wow hopeless that.? but is par here, and vast wrong answers just for that fact alone.even mine.
i have many optiplex PC here old and new and my fav is 9020MT or smaller my oldest is 380(in storage)
is your coin cell dead. (if yes can NOT be ignored)
my dells all have F12 diagnostics,
power on and hammer F12,, pick diag eSPA and run it
older PCs dell if the HDD is dead the F12 diag is dead. due to being located there back long ago.
my dells have a BIOS log page,
go to BIOS the click tab, LOG
read the logs. see what fails. (coin cell RTC sure)_
easy no?\
but why on earth post lacking the model number
making any useful simple help 10 pages long for 29years of models.
1993 is the first OptiPlex, seen here.

Dell OptiPlex 3020 Desktop computer startup problem?
What is the exact error that you are getting? Do you get any blue screens? Have you installed any software recently or made any changes? I can only suggest checking the power cables and trying to use a different cable or spare if you have any for now.
I have forgotten my bios password
Desktops PCs usually have a 'jumper' on the motherboard, inside of the PC, that resets the BIOS, removing the password but also changing some settings to their defaults. It takes some 'know how' but you can google it to help you locate it.
Replace dvd rom
CD/DVD reader/wroters are 'generic' parts, so any that the right size (5 1/4" or 'slim-line') with the right connector (IDE or SATA) should work OK. If in doubt, just buy from Dell (at their rip-off 'spare part' prices)
To get the Optiplex case open, look on the Dell web site for the 'service manual' ..
