Hanging on detection of drive when installing Windows XP
Installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not a straight-forward task as Windows XP does not recognize the SATA drive. In order to install operating systems such as Windows XP on SATA drives, the latest SATA drivers are required.Download SATA drivers for the motherboard from the website and integrate them with the XP installation CD using software such as nLite. SATA drivers can also be installed as third party drivers; you will be prompted during the installation process. Without proper SATA drivers, installing Windows XP on a SATA hard drive is not possible as SATA mode would have to be disabled in the BIOS to continue with the installation.
Installing Windows XP on a Serial ATA hard drive is not an easy task, because the system does not recognize SATA drivers at startup. Windows XP Pro SP2 fares a little better with SATA drivers, but here is what can be done in cases where the driver is not recognized.

Can we use Excelstor Gstor
To configure the hard drive as a slave drive, you need to set a jumper on the hard drive to SL (slave)
The other jumper settings are MA (master) and CS (cable select).

How to format excelstor hardisk?
For your specific operating system, assuming that Windows is running, locate Admistrative Tools -> Disk management.
You should see Disk 0 or Disk 1 with your Excelstor 80GB drive: if you do not have a partition, create one or more partition, assign drive letter(s) and then format using the context menu.
If you do not see the drive in the Disk Management screen, then your Bios has not been setup properly or your drive is not connected properly.
Hope it helps.

Pin connection for 'master ..slave
I assume these are IDE drives since SATA doesn't require jumper settings. . .You will need to set the primary drive jumper to master[ma] & the secondary drive jumper to slave[sl]. Some systems require dual hdd systems to have both set to the cable select[cs] jumper. Check your motherboard or system manufacturer manual to see which setup your system requires. If you lost the manual most manufacturers have it availablr on their website under the support link. Hope this helps.

I am guessing it is an older machine. consider trying the following:
GO to
START - HELP AND SUPPORT - SYSTEM RESTORE - SETTINGS - SYSTEM RESTORE SETTINGS -SETTINGS - Try changing to SAVE LESS.
Maybe this is where all of your space went .
Also clean the HD:
.
START - MY COMPUTER - rRight click HARD DRIVE -
DISK CLEAN UP - (AFTER THAT'S DONE) click TOOLS - DEFRAGMENT NOW.

Cant install ubuntu 7.04 on Excelstor J880 SATA Drive
From what I know, both your motherboard and your hard drive work with Ubuntu. I would try the newest release, 8.04 (Hardy Heron).
Try setting the motherboard into AHCI mode rather than IDE mode (you should be able to change this under hard drive settings in your BIOS)
Also, the problem may be with your optical drive. Try swapping that out.
If you can't solve it from there, if you haven't already, try posting on the ubuntu forums.
