1st question... does the cd-rw recognizes (read) standard cd's... if so it just a driver prob.. if not then find the incidence of the device in the Device manager, delete it and restart thecomputer. Also.. you may go to the dell website and re install any available driver. One last measure... rare but sometimes the connection are loose and not seated properly..

Turn off the computer, unplug, open case push on ALL the connectors and are seated..(including memory)....

If all that fails then its a bad drive... also rare but a lot more common with mass produced comp. It may still be under warranty and at worst ;you may have to pay ship and handling.

I would suggest going to the Dell website and making sure you have the most up to date drivers, including chipset drivers.

If that doesn't fix the situation you can disable standby by going to the control panel> Power Options, select each theme and disable standby, also goto the advanced tab and make sure your power button doesn't cause your computer to go into standby. Note that disabling standby doesn't actually fix the issue, it just disables standby.

Go to the Dell website, download and install the latest graphics driver for your machine

motherboard is what we usually recommend on field replacement. Might be the LCD too. You under warranty? Got Backup?

Try taking the battery out of the laptop, and see if it will power up. If not it is possible that your power cord died - and your battery may be just fine.

For reference, I've seen plenty of Dell's with dead power cables.

This happened to me as well. I did some research online and found that it is a common complaint for the AC adapters that come with these laptops. Basically, the wiring is very fragile, and the adapters only tend to last a year or two. Unfortunately, you will probably need to buy a new adapter.

What software did you load that made your system fail to opperate? Are you able to boot your system up?  Please give me more details to assist you.

push the physical cd drive try button marked EJECT the PC must be running, or use the paper clip hole trick. (if PC is dead or tray jammed) google that. clip trick the dell manuals covers this

ask at Microsoft.com forum , there? or learn that if PC had this new, it is in fact crippleware. and will nag you until you buy it or do the rent things, 360 jive. best is buy it and set it up like you went. even 2007 runs here on w10. office. the PCs most on earth new, come with free but fully crippleware. as do vast other bloatware loaded on new PC. I erase all that junk and set up my own things paid and licensed.
