Its better if you can reinstall the OS...
Dell has a default partition on the computer and you can install with the same..
If you have windows vista on the computer then tap F8 when the computer turns on and then you will be able to see the advanced boot options.. Select repair my computer.. In the repair my computer screen select the dell factory image restore...
Your computer will go through the installation and it will be up and running...
If you have windows Xp then you have to turn on the computer and when the dell logo appears you have to simultaneously press control and the F11key.. You will be able to reinstall the OS in this way..
If you dont find this default partition then go ahead and reinstall the OS and then install all the drivers for the system....

would indicate that the operating system is not detected. try to restore or reinstall your OS, if this does not work, try to remove and reconnect the hard drive of the system which I believe is an SSD type. You can also try to run diagnostics by trying FN power button to turn it on or tap F12 when system is restarting and select Diagnostics from the One Time Boot Menu. It is possible that the SSD drive needs to be replaced

Hi, you have symptoms of a failing video card. It is onboard integrated in the mainboard of the laptop and cannot be replaced. Normally caused by constant overheating. Get a compressed air cannister and blow the holes and air vents under the casing (while laptop is OFF). This is just remedial. Also try using an external monitor (VGA) just for comparison.

If you boot the laptop from the XP CD it will come to an option where it says looking for Windows installations. When it finds it use the option to delete partition then format it and install. After deleting partition the laptop doesnt know it has anything installed on it. Please dont forget to vote

Sounds like the hard drive was locked, or the BIOS was locked. If the hard drive was locked, you must replace the hard drive. if the BIOS was locked you willl need to reset the bios. You can likely remove the CMOS battery to reset the bios.

Run the recovery console or ask Dell to send a disk.

Sounds like bad Keyboard, about $20 on EBay. If that doesn't resolve, then it will be a motherboard.

The only way you can install application is by using the installer cd/dvd of your microsoft windows xp, home edition, if you don't have one, well you better buy a genuine copy.

It might be the problem of the LCD display wiring. Not any problems of the drivers. If your notebook is still in the warranty period, call the customer care and they should fix it.

Or else print screen, copy it to paint. If there is no white lines in the image, then sure its LCD problem. Replace the wiring with experts in case you're out of warranty period. Take care not to repair it by yourself as it could do more damage to your screen.

The BIOS chip seems to have gone. This is the chip that assumes control of the PC/laptop when powered on. After testing the hardware under POST, it passes the control to the HDD or whatever has been configured to boot first. If this chip is bad then no action and no display are justified. Please have this BIOS chip replaced.

This is unfortunately due to the circuitry that drives the row/column are going faulty, eventually it will get worse and worse...sorry a bout that..

You got a bad LCD screen. no immediate resolution aside from getting the LCD replaced. if your system still has warranty call Dell for replacement.

To restore to default, you will need your dell restore disks
The Dell operating system disk, and the dell utilities disks.
if you didnt receive these you can request replacements here

you will also need an external USB CD/DVD drive. 

If there is any data that you want to keep, it would be advisable to copy.
everything to a USB flash drive. This process will wipe out all of your documents, pictures, email, etc.

Try deleting all the partitions and perform the complete format instead of the quick format. Maybe this will help you.

Depending on how old the laptop is, the battery may need to be replaced. Since it charges, I would not suspect the power cord, so indications may lead you to requiring a new battery.

What are you trying to do? If you wish to take the laptop apart you should try & get hold of a service manual for you particular machine. This makes it far easier than guessing how the machine is taken apart. You can cause more damage if you do not remove items correctly.
