Loading and downloading is extemely
First course of action is to reboot the modem. Unplug it for 5 seconds and plug it back in. If this doesn't improve performance, check the settings on your Ethernet card. Most times it's set for Auto Negotiation which usually works fine but not in all cases. If your settings are too high, you will lose performance as well. Try setting it for 10Mbps Full Duplex. This is usually the best setting for DSL.
To change Network Card / Ethernet in Windows:
Right click on Computer/Properties/Device Manager/Network Adapter
Then Right click on Network Adapter and click on the Advanced tab.
Scroll down until you get to Speed & Duplex. Click on it and you will see your settings to the right. You can change the settings by scrolling on them to get the settings you want. Change and click Apply. You will temporarily lose your connection while it resets. After the connection resets, go to www.dslreports.com/speedtest and test your connection speed using the Flash speed test.
Keep in mind, although DSL connections are consistent, the further away you are from the hub, the slower the speeds will be.
I hope this helps with your problem and please feel free to post back with any other questions or to rate this solution. Thank you for using Fixya.

My internet goes down randomly.
Are you using wired ports on the router or wireless?
If you are using wireless, do you have a cordless phone nearby and does the use of it coincide with the loss of internet? Have you tried switching to a wired connection for a short while to see if you are having the same problem? Could be intereference issues with your wireless signal. When you look at the available wireless networks, are there more than one? Could be that your PC/laptop is trying to connect to someone else's wireless if their signal strength is stronger.
If you are using a wired connection on the wireless router and still losing connectivity, try a network connection monitoring tool such as WhatsUpGold (free to try). Have it set up to monitor your PC's gateway address (which should be your wireless router) and some other internet site (Google, Yahoo, etc). If your router connection never drops, but the internet site does, good chance that it's your provider.
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your network device (wired or wireless) and the latest version of firmware for your D-Link. Buggy drivers and firmware can definitely cause flakiness.

My speedstream modem wont let me connect with wireless router
high this is a crazey fix but it might work it has done on two of my modems speedstream and speed touch and i track this problem down just so i could post this fix because i know what its like to pull your hair out over thease things its pretty simple and i know idear why it works but it has done for me
firstly if your with a internet provider and they have supplied you with a disk if your lucky it will have modem problem fixing file such as with tiscali
if like me you only get some way through it as it configures your modem hear it is take the phone of the receiver ie hook then it will configure your modem for you
if not lucky enough to have this on your set up internet cd you can still try it
by taking the phone of the hook and then rebooting your modem ie switching it of and on becarfel though it might be best if you closed your computer down first
1) take phone of hook
2)re boot modem
3)tern on computer /laptop
good luck

Can"t get on the internet using 5100 speedstream modem my
in your browser type 192.16.0.1 and it will take you to the modem admin page.
Press the check connection button and it will tell you how your connections are doing. If it shows DSL/Internet down, then most likely your ISP is down 95% likely), or your modem is bad (happens pretty often with these things)
If it doesn't take you to the page, try using 10.0.0.1
some of the newer 5100s have that as their address. Same options and advice.
