Epson TM-U220PD Matrix Printer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Epson printer TM U220 (User Intervention Required)
I spent a good week trying to find an answer to this problem... and finally I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!
it's to do with the Port settings.
go to BIOS and change the port settings on your computer.
there are a number of different options that can be selected, just try them one by one, the one that worked for me was "Normal" try that one first, but it may be differnet depending on the printer.
if your LPT port is using it's own driver (not using BIOS to run) you cant change the settings using the BIOS. see if you can change it useing the settings for the dirver. if not try updating the driver. if that doesn't work, and nothing else works, reinstall Windows, that should fix the problem as a last resort.
good luck.

You need to register an account in epsonexpert.com, once your logged in follow this steps.
1. Go to technical resources.
2. Under printers look for the TM-U220 series.
3. Look for Windows Drivers, Advanced printer driver.

This is a firmware bug that was resolved after ver 4.13, you may need to contact epson support to request a copy or upgrade as it is not downloadable through standard sources

Also at printer properties you have option to set the printer using only black cartridge.
User Intervention required on Epson
I had the same problem with the user intervention required status on the printer. I tries reinstalling it several times through the Epson Driver Utility but got the same message each time. I got it to work after making two change but do not know which one (if either) got it to work. First i uninstalled the printer driver through Add/Remove Programs and not through the Driver Utility. I also set Dip switch 1-1 to on which enables auto line feed with parallel interface, with other interfaces this switch changes other things.
