Epson stylus photo 820

Hi Ikarp9090

If both lights are flashing, it usually means the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit. You can restore your printer to a working condition immediately by using the SSC utility - download from:

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Install it, and double click the ssc printer icon in the bottom right corner (System Tray). Choose Configuration and set your printer type (820), then close the ssc window. Now right click the ssc icon in the sytem tray and choose Protection Counter. You should see that the current count is above the limit; then choose reset to set it to zero. You will need to fib about having changed the waste ink pads! Turn the printer off then back on again. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.

However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back and I will provide further help. It is a pretty simple job once someone explains how to get the case apart!

If this solution helps you, please rate it; if it doesn't, please provide further information by posting a new comment.

My printer epson is printing yellow background

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

IF YOU ARE USING GENERIC CARTRIDGES, MAYBE IT WOULD BE
BE BETTER IF YOU DISABLE THE INK MONITOR.

This is the only advice I can give you.

I have epson stylus photo

This printer uses a "parallel-port" cable to connect from the printer to your computer.

See: http://www.cable-trader.co.uk/images/items/Bi-directional%20parallel%20printer%20cable.jpg
for a picture of the required "data" cable.

This printer also uses an external power-supply (a "brick" and a cord).
Look on eBay to find an inexpensive, compatible, unit.

It might be cheaper to buy a brand-new printer.

I want to connect my epson stylus photo 820 to my

You just connect the USB cable to the back of the printer and to an available USB port on the computer. If you don't have any USB ports available, you will need to get a USB hub. That effectively let's you share one of the ports that you have on your computer. If you need the printer driver, you can get it here: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=14409&infoType=Downloads

Choose the media type on print settings that is closest to the type of paper that you are using. Choose the correct paper size too. Try printing again.

820 ink problem

Hi Evestal,

I've noticed the same thing on my Epson Stylus Photo 820 ink status monitor. If it's set to use only black ink, then logically it shouldn't actually be using any color ink other than when it does a cleaning cycle. Truth is... the built in monitor counts at the same rate for color and black regardless of the true levels. So, unfortunate consumers are likely to restock prematurely on expensive cartridges if they aren't aware that monitor is counting prints, and not actually measuring ink.

I've bought refill kits made by JetTec at Staples and they make a Re-Setting Device for cartridges. Lately my local Staples have stopped carrying this brand but I'm know they're available online. The re-setter is a little plastic device with and LED light that changes color after you match up it's little metal prongs with the microchip on your cartridge to indicate that it has been re-set. Just follow the directions that come with the re-set device. This is also a good way to get the last remaining bits of ink out of cartridges when they're low. The Epson print counter stops you from printing once it "thinks" it's out of ink but the reset device convinces it otherwise untill you really do run out.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.
