Photoshop and the R1800

I had the same problem and read everything I could find about it. Finally after tinkering around, I discovered that printing everything using "Photo Enhance" setting produced the best pictures. Also, I use a calibrated monitor and print through Photoshop Elements 5. Lots of Luck! Cyndy

Paper doesn't always feed, and when it does, the paper rolls through without printing

Get a Q-Tip and alcohol. Wet Q-tip with alcohol. Stand in front of the printer and look down where the paper feeds through. On the righthand side you will see a big roller that pulls the paper through and a little one right up under that. Clean both of them with the alcohol and Q-tip. Press the paper feed button and as it trys to act like it is feeding the paper, clean the roller with the Q-tip. Do this until the paper feeds through correctly.

How do I run cleaning option -- won't print

Select something to print. Then go to FILE - PRINT and when the dialogue box appears, click to right of named printer on PROPERTIES. Then when that dialogue box appears, click on the MAINTENANCE tab and you can then click on Head Cleaning. Just make sure there is at least one sheet of A4 office-type paper in the printer, as when the clean has finished, you need to click on Nozzle Check. The printout will show if the nozzles are now working. Never do more than a couple of such cleans and always follow with the Nozzle Check printout - you can turn the paper round to use a fresh part - it only uses a small part of the paper each time.

Epson R1800 printer won't recognize new ink cartridge

You can remove magenta & double check that some tape was not left behind on the contacts. Take a clean ragg & dampen it with alcohol. Clean the ink cartridge's (copper contacts & inside the the ink carrige). Re-install the magenta, (tight fit). Power off the printer. Wait a few seconds & power it back up. If it fails a second time with no other errors. Like the above. Than the magenta may be defective. Have a recipt? Return it for a replacment.

Replace main board epson r1800

I'm having the same problem. I was wondering if the Epson board was the same as the Anajet board or was there a difference. Anajet board is $800 and a new Epson board is about $225.I'm willing to gamble on the Epson. Dont really want to spend another $1K on parts.

Epson r1800 nothing printing

I had same problems and i took it back bc it happened right away. I ask if there was any recalls and was told no. My best advice i was given about printers is buy a new one when your ink runs out bc the cost of ink will get you a better printer than you have now bc prices drop so much.

Epson R1800 Print head wiper blade

Just because the Wiper blade is not visible when the carriage is off to the left it does not mean it is not there. Epson R1800 has automated retractable system that will pull the wiper out when needed and then hide it away. You might be able to access it manually only at certain cycle point while unplugging the power in mid cycle. I saw the thing after removing the print head for cleaning. Have a snapshot of it. Covered in hardened gunk. My problem was that after cleaning and reassembly printer will initiate properly, park the head but when attempting to print on paper or CD it would shut off. In paper mode the carriage moves all the way to the left and turns off the moment it tries to pull paper in. The green light goes off, when power button is lightly touched it will recover, go through the cycle and repeat the same when another print job is sent to it. While in CD print mode it shuts of while the carriage is on the right side and is getting ready to pull the CD tray in. I'm thinking the data-ribbon was still moist from head soaking, drying and spraying it with compressed air was not sufficient. Somehow it screwed up the communication/head alignment procedure. Will get back to it and report if I'll get any positive results. Any input will be appreciated of course. Seen few post with the same exact result of a print head cleaning attempt. It seems Epson designed those things to fail one way or another. First you go through a set or two of cartridges just to get rid of the constant clogging, when that does not work and you try to clean it it will fail in some other fashion, unbelievable. Last Epson I ever bought. They will bleed you dry, while frustrating and annoying the hell out of you in the meantime. To those neah sayers, yes I am using OEM carts, and no R1800 is not some econo class printer you throw away after 1 yr. I have actually payed $560 for it, betting it will last. 8x$14 each time carts need to be replaced and more of them got drained in constant cleaning cycles then actually printing. Got few months of semi successful performance, then nothing but problems. Stay away people ! "Made in Japan" no longer stands for anything. Shame on you Epson !

Hi - I have a

Hi Rosie,

Thanks for your question at Fixya,

Please find the solution to your problem as follows :-

  1. As you have indicated in your description that you have not used the printer for couple of months, that means that the refill or the cartridge has dried up , that is the case with the inkjet printers that the cartridge gets dried up when not used constantly.
  2. Now the error message that you get is due to the fact that the cartridge has dried up and is no longer detecting any valid ink in it.
  3. So when you replace it , or refill it as some people do for reuse you can have the printer working fine, however a good idea would be to take the cartridge to the shot and check if with them , whether it's malfunctioning or has indeed dried up , which most probably is true in your case.

Hope this helps ...:) In case you have any queries , feel free to contact me.

I have an Epson Photo 1800 printer with a broken

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.
