The OS X software for the Epson Perfection 610 can be found at http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=14559&infoType=Downloads it should work. If it does not work you can use vuescan from http://www.hamrick.com/ it costs about $40 but there is a free version which will allow you to try it out. Hope this helps.

Go to the manufacturers website and look for drivers and downloads. Make sure you download the full feature software.

You can get the drivers and software for supported OS versions here: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=14559&infoType=Downloads . If you have a newer OS (particularly 64-bit), Epson may not support the OS. There are workarounds (use a virtual computer with an older, supported OS or a dual boot machine with the supported OS).

Ok. Found this question on-line as I also wanted to know the answer. Couldnt find an answer so I just decided to have a go myself. It was quite easy really. Lift the lid upwards and gently push it backwards from the hinged end and it will unclip. With the scanner facing away from you, undo the only 2 screws visible at the back. Then gently lift up and push forward towards the front. You can see thru the glass 3 plasic lugs holding the front down. With a little wiggle the cover with the glass attached will come away from the slotted holes where the plastic lugs go. Clean glass an carefully replace lid in the reverse order. Pete

Unfortunately, there is no free solution to your problem. No Vista driver has been written for your scanner.

But, there is a solution. Vuescan has a product here:

As Epson does not have drivers for this Vista, have you tried the driver for Windows XP?

I am sure the original poster will have probably replaced the unit by now but I just had a similar problem with my Epson Perfection 2480 Photo scanner so I think it is still worth posting the solution in case other people hit this problem in the future. All I had to do was put the switch underneath the scanner to the "unlocked" position and then reboot the unit. Hey presto it burst back into life. It's annoying to see that the manual seems to suggest that the red light means the unit is "dead" !
