Unable to write to file

I had the same problem and fixed mine without re installation. Even though the error does not indicate it very well, the application could not write to the destination. The EPSON Scan application has a destination in two places. One under configuration, in my case, correct. However, a more buried location, next to the Scan button, press the arrow to edit more settings. There, you will find another destination, in my case, incorrect ( a folder that did not exist). Change the setting to a folder that does exist, it should work. Check out my fix here, detailed with pictures. Thank you. Hope this helps someone.

There is a loose part rattling within my

I just had this problem too. What has probably happened is that the belt/wheel assembly within the upper lid has broken loose from its plastic housing. It is normally retained in place by two weak plastic posts, each having a plastic extrusion that holds the metal housing for the wheel in place. Just minor stress can apparently snap off the plastic extrusions. (Nice quality workmanship, Epson.)

Unplug the upper lid and remove it. Unscrew the 5 retaining screws and then use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the bottom of the unit away from the rest of the housing. Stabilize the wheel mechanism so that you can rotate the whole unit around in order to grab the broken plastic pieces and small spring without allowing the wheel mechanism to crash into things. Superglue the two broken plastic pieces to their proper mated location on the lid, and wait about half a day for a solid bond. Then fit the wheel housing over the two plastic pieces so that the thin silver bar is pointed toward the back of the lid. (Do NOT place the spring over the thin silver bar yet.) Fit the orange belt properly around the wheel. NOW, push the wheel housing carefully toward the front of the lid until there is slight tension in the belt. Squeeze one end of the spring over the thin silver bar and push the spring completely into its recessed plastic trough while compressing it. Reassemble, and you're done.

Scanning bar is stuck, won't slide, just clicks

Did you try unlocking the transportation locks?
There are 2, one on the left side of the scanner and one on the top cover.

Here is a site with some pictures on how to do it.

I am unable to scan

Ok usually to scan films one needs a special attachment, or fitting, as you can't normally scan negatives, they come out all overexposed or underexposed etc. Anyway, if this component is absent, then the scanner will detect this and you will not be able to scan them... using that setting anyway.
You need to find out, what's required to do what you want...once all setup i should think you will have no problems..
If you can't get or don't want to have to use the/any adapter, there are "Other' various ways to using a normal scanner and a bit few tricks, one can indeed scan film... You need to Google this if it's what you want.
