the only way to fix the problem is to clean out the motor filter that's inside, the filter is around the motor and they don't do replacements for this part, as its not accessible by normal use, you need to remove all the case screws and disassemble the hole case, this site may help you https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php?topic=76.0
There are a number of places that list replacement switches. There are also a number of DC05 models, though the power switch is not likely to vary across them. Amazon, for instance, has a Dyson Switch for models including the DC05 and six other models (see here
Dyson Switch Dc03 Dc04 Dc05 Dc07 Dc08 Dc11 Dc14 On Off )
This video (ostensibly for a DC08, but the procedure should be pretty much identical) shows how to take the unit apart, get at and test the on/off switch, and replace it if need-be.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
I'm confident I know what the issue is here - it sounds like you may have accidentally discarded the bin inner when emptying your machine. Without this in place, dust and debris will pass through the system and onto the pre-filter, rather than being separated from the airflow and captured in the clear bin.
The bin inner is the coloured cylindrical plastic section with a black rubber seal, which usually sits inside the clear bin as shown here:
If you've recently emptied your DC05 it's worth checking to make sure the bin inner hasn't fallen out. If you can retrieve it, it should simply push firmly back into place inside the clear bin.
It's also a good idea to wash both parts of your machine's washable pre-filter, as it may still contain dust even if it looks clean on the outside. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for both parts of the filter to dry completely before replacing it in the machine:

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
If your DC05 is making a burning smell, it sounds like it may be the motor that's at fault. DC05 is one of our very oldest machines, and unfortunately since the start of 2015, we have no longer been able to support DC05 with spares or servicing due to its age. However we do have some discount offers available so DC05 owners can upgrade to the latest Dyson technology if they choose to do so.
If you'd like to find out more or discuss your options with our experts, you're welcome to call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi there,For guidance on maintaining your DC05's filter, please take a look at the video below. We'd recommend washing the filter using cold water without detergent at least once every 3-6 months. Please make sure it's completely dry before replacing it - this may take up to 12 hours. The filter in the base is designed to last the lifetime of the machine, and should not require maintenance or replacement. Attempting to wash this is likely to cause damage, so we'd strongly advise against this.I hope this helps - if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298. Our Helpline is available from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week, and calls are free from UK landlines.Best wishes,JackDyson Online Customer Supporthttp://www.dyson.com

Hi Andrew,I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC04. If the machine shut itself off during use, it sounds as if it may have overheated due to a blockage - the filter may also need a wash.To locate and remove any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc04/dc04-brush-control/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/wand-suctionIn normal use, the filter needs to be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us on 0800 298 0298 - our Helpline is available from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week.Best wishes,JackDyson Online Customer Supporthttp://www.dyson.com

It will be much easier to replace the whole rewind unit. They are a pain to repair and there are many other things to go wrong with a worn one. Replace the unit.
Hi, Somewhere in the suction lines, starting at the cleaning nozzle up to the canister, there is an obstuction. What is happening is this. The vacuum cleaner motor uses the cool air that it sucks in to cool the electric motor. When the air flow is obstructed, the motor will over heat. There is another possibility, and that is that the canister is overfilled with dirt, or some type of powder that is clogging air flow. That can cause the same effect. To handle this, you literally have to get down and dirty. Go ahead and remove all of the hoses and attachements that you were using when this happened and look for the obstruction. Sometimes on Vacuum cleaners with a blower feature, you can blow the obstruction out using the reverse flow of air. An old coat hanger comes in handy for situations such as this. Sometimes it takes patience to do this. It is one of those things that has happened to every vacuum cleaner I have either owned or repaired. I hope this is a help to you. Let me know if you have any questions at all, Best Regards, Mark
If you can make it work by holding the switch down then it must be the switch or a bad connection on it. The only way to find out is unplug the machine from the mains and remove the switch to check it. A replacement should be cheap enough. pete.
Hi there VacuumGuru from Vacuumspot.com.au here. You will find there are 2 reasons will not spin in a dyson DC05. 1 is that it is missing one of the 2 parts in the dust container, there should be an upside down funnel in there and a rubber boot on it. Without those dust just goes either to the bottom of the bin or to the filter. The 2nd cause is that even though the filters have been cleaned they are simply too old. When you hold the washable filter (the one with the plastic outer and the foam insert) up to the light and take out the foam bit you should be able to see light through the filter. If not you are probably only running on maybe 80% suction which still works but isn't as good as it could be.
The filters are available here if you need them.
Hope this helps! :)
Hi there VacuumGuru for Vacuumspot.com.au. I would say that you are missing a part out of the vacuum dirt container. There is supposed to be a part a bit like an upside down funnel with a rubber seal on the end of it. Without this dirt will go straight to your filter. If you need any vacuum cleaner parts just go to Vacuumspot.com.au.
If you think this is a good solution please rank it!.
