Check the axles of the wheels for debris accumulation. Also, make sure the height is set for the type of carpet that you have. Try pushing the machine on a bare floor--is it hard to move there also? Hope this helps!

Brushes do not turn

HI there,
There are a couple of reasons that your brushes may not spin.
1. The hard floor / carpet dial is set to hard floor.
2. The clutch to motor belt is broken
3. The clutch to brush belt is broken.
4. The roller brush bearings are siezed.
5. The clutch is faulty.
THis sounds like a lot of things but if you watch my video I will show you all these issues and you can get your machine going again.
I also have a blog at vacuumsmart.info if you have other Dyson questions.
If you need to get a new belt for your dyson or a brush roller you can purchase them online.

Hi, I have had my Dyson DC07 Animal vacuum for 5

Try this:
I don't know how many filters the Dyson has, but my bagless has three.
Take all of your filters out and inspect/clean them. Many vac's have thermal overload switches in them that can only be reset by them cooling. This is probably what is happening. One of the filters is not allowing sufficient
air to pass.

When the power button is

Hi there,
This is a common problem for the dyson DC08 & DC07 vacuums. The switch itself is a little bit weak and after a time just fails. Basically the only proper solution is to have the switch replaced. The switch itself is fairly cheap and is only a 10 minute job to fit. Normally by the time the switch is failing I would recommend replacing the washable filter too. If you live in Australia you can get any related parts from Nelson Vacuums or VacuumSpot.
Hope this is helpful for you.

I have a Dyson Animal

Is this a new vacuum for you, or are you familiar with how it works? The beater bar button is on the front of the handle. It is a large half button with the picture of a beater bar on it. This button has to be pushed down for the bar to work.

If you already knew this and your vacuum is one you have had for awhile, it may have a worn or broken belt. The manual should tell you how to replace the belt, and you should be able to purchase one through the dyson website http://dyson.com under PARTS or at the store where you purchased the vacuum.

Please let me know if this works for you.

I have a Dyson DC07

It has two little pegs that hold it onto the perspex cylinder. Really, it shouldn't fall off during normal use. Check one of the little pegs hasn't broken off. If it has, you need to replace the bin flap. If the pegs are OK, check the two mounting holes on the perspex cylinder. If you need to replace either, you can get them from here: http://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/DC07-spares.html as Dyson will not sell you cylinder components but those guys will.

Vacum is fine just no suction on attachment hose

Hi there, I see this problem pretty often because where the hose joins the machine proper there is a slight reduction in airway size. I have made a video to show you how to remove the hose so take a look at that. If you find a split in the hose you will need to buy a new DC07 hose because it will reduce suction ans cause blockages more frequently.

Seems like there is a decrease in suction?

Ensure that the canister is emptied thoroughly and that there is no blockage in vacuums path (Check for Kleenex's or in my case, cat toys)

Consider disassembling and cleaning your unit. Sometimes dirt and grit will build up, and when wiped away allow the moving parts to function better. Dysons are made to be broken down by the homeowner. A manual can be obtained here: http://www.manualowl.com/m/Dyson/DC17/Manual/205779

Belt is still attached, but

Hi,

If the motor runs but the brushes aren't turning, there are several possible reasons:

1. There is something trapped in or around the brush bar. Lie the vacuum on one side and make sure you can turn the brushes by hand. They should give some resistance when turning by hand, but the should turn.
2. The belt is worn/stretched and is slipping. This is often accompanied by the smell of burning rubber.
3. The belt is broken. It may still look attached to attached to the brushbar but it could be broken inside.
4. The brushbar isn't inserted correctly.

REMEDY: Please follow these simple instructions to determine the cause of the fault.

Disconnect the power and allow to cool for at least an hour if you have been using it

1. Sit on a chair, turn the vacuum upside down and hold it between your knees:

belectric_43.jpg

2. Undo the 3 fasteners at the positions shown in the picture below on the underside of the dyson (use a coin). Pivot the back edge of the sole plate upwards and lift off the sole plate which covers the brush bar:

belectric_44.jpgbelectric_45.jpg

3. Check for any debris around the brushes that may be stopping it from turning

4. Check that the brushbar is correctly inserted:

belectric_49.jpg

5. Check that the belt is intact and tight and correctly looped over the motor spindle:

belectric_47.jpg

If the belt is intact and tight, the brushbar turns freely and is correctly inserted and the motor runs, then your belt is probably worn/stretched and needs replacing.

All of the other possible faults can be fixed once the sole plate is removed (Step 2). Remove any debris from the brushbar, make sure it is correctly inserted, and make sure the belt is correctly looped over both the motor spindle and brushbar.

If you need to replace the belt, please see my other post for replacing the belt on a DC07

http://www.fixya.com/support/t7232645-fit_new_drive_belt

If you have done all of the above and there is still no obvious reason why the brushbar isn't turning, please post back for further assistance.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric.
