Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I just cleaned out my Dyson animal, which had no suction. Now, all put back together, the suction is there but the machine makes a long lasting sound when I shut it off.
Hey, It's Jim with Crucial Vacuum,
If you're hearing an odd sound that is somewhat prolonged after you turn off your vacuum it be that your belt or brush roll needs replacing.
If you have suction and there aren't any clogs in your vacuum your belt might be worn and loose, which could give off an odd noise as it slows down along with the brush roll upon you turning off the vacuum.
Does your Dyson DC14's belt lack tension? It may be hitting the brush roll at the wrong angle. Same deal with the brush roll itself. Turn your vacuum over and take a look at the bristles. Are they loose or worn down? These are indications that its time to change these two parts of your Dyson DC14.
If these parts aren't in top shape or attached properly they're bound to make a number of odd noises.
We do offer low cost high quality replacement parts for Dyson DC14's. They can be found at the below link:

My Dyson DC 14 has great suction, filters are clean; but roller will not turn unless you manually start it, then vacuum is very hard to push.
Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC14's brush bar. From what you've described it sounds as if your clutch mechanism could be damaged or worn. If the vacuum is hard to push the soleplate or internal hose could be out of alignment.
I would encourage you to contact us directly so we can run you through some further troubleshooting checks when you have your vacuum easily to hand. If a repair or replacement part is needed, we should also be able to arrange this for you and confirm if any charges are likely to be involved.

While vacuuming my dyson just
Well, since we all know that Dyson's never get plugged with dirt, it certainly can't be that. That leaves the motor, switch, wiring, etc.
I'm just a couple miles north of T.R. on Wilbur Road if you'd care to bring it to my shop. I could diagnose it better there. Just call 279 - 6077 before coming over. Corky
How to get the brush out to clean it ?
Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
DC14's brush bar is connected to the clutch mechanism which allows you to adjust the machine for carpets and hard floors. For this reason it's nor possible to remove the brush bar - however you can remove the soleplate to making cleaning the brush bar easier:
Once the soleplate is removed, we'd recommend using scissors to carefully cut away any threads or hair. Please take care not to damage any of the bristle tufts.
I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further maintenance advice you're welcome to call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Why won't my dyson dc14 animal to turn on
I have received many dysons for repairs citing the same fault. 99% have the motors 'open circuited'. Simply put, this means that the motor windings have broken and the circuit no longer has continuity and therefore will not work. The motors do not give any indication and do not smell, they simply faulter. Without testing your unit I cannot say for sure, but, that would be my guess. Sorry, Cheers.
How to return telescopic reach pole to original position
Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
Once you've reattached the wand to the machine, you need to press the release catch again to collapse the wand back down inside the hose. The release catch is the same one you used to remove the wand initially, located just above the on/off switch.
I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further advice you're welcome to get in touch directly. You can reach our experts by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
If you need to remove the hose from the vacuum completely - to replace it with a new one, or to check for blockages - this is simple to do.
Start by disengaging the wand from the vacuum, then remove the clear bin and cyclone as you would if you were emptying the machine. You'll be able to see the hose release tab on the main body of the machine - pressing this and pulling up on the hose will remove the hose:
