XP is too old to access the internet anymore! MS stopped updating or supporting XP years ago. Any system they stop supporting will eventually not be able to communicate with the internet. Operating Systems(XP) have to be update to communicate with internet upgrades, once that update process stops, your XP or others, will no longer work on internet. time to buy new pc and windows os, ie. Windows 10

Computer does not boot upThe problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needsreseating to make proper electrical contact.Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up thenremove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop andget them to test the RAM for you.

The driver has to be unziped before installation.

Remove the screws that are mounted underneath the rubber bumpers. Then carefully pry open the bezel.

If they are generic Windows drivers, a driver finder program should be able to find the right drivers for that computer.

If you still have the tab that activates the switch they can sometimes be glued back on. The keyboard cover includes the power button. You can find them on ebay for 1/3 of what the are from a parts depot.

Bad battery or charging unit. A volt meter can check the charger although the battery is the problem if old I think

By removing all screws first... Along with unplugging all cables..

Once all screws are removed, The motherboard will pop right out..

The drivers will only work once you have an operating system installed. ATM your new HDD contains nothing.

Are you sure the charger is the correct specs for your model? Check the label on the laptop and on the charger to be sure they match. The voltage and amps should be the same. Most importantly check the polarity which will be a graphic that looks something like this:

What that is telling you is if the center of the plug is positive or negative. The only thing that matters is that the pictures are the same. If you switch your polarity you will almost always blow out your power supply on the system board. Does the laptop power on or has it not worked since you heard the noise?

If it has not powers on odds are the specs are wrong on your charger and you might have damaged the laptop. If the laptop still works then it is possible the charger is providing too much power or malfunctioning. A laptop will work with a more powerful charger sometimes, but it is never recommended as it will create more heat and reduce the life time of the laptop system board.

If you mean by drive the hard drive, any 2.5" laptop hard drive will work. It must be ATA for this model. www.newegg.com is the best place to find computer parts for a good price. I just purchased a seagate 120gb laptop hard drive for this same model computer.

Check the connections to your hard drive and make sure the sata and power cables are fully connected. Then listen for the spinning sound. If your hard drive is not spinning it may be bad, or it could be an issue with your connectors, either way i would contact gateway for further support as it should be looked at.

I found there are plastic clips on the hinges that pop off and from there the face plate comes off. All better now
