Gateway 830GM PC Desktop Questions & Answers
No sound on speakers except on itunes
I cannot find drivers on the Gateway Support site, which usually means the machine is no longer supported, which also usually means the Operating System is no longer supported. If this machine is running XP, or earlier, beware. It is no longer supported, and hackers will be looking for these machines to infect. I recommend you get a newer machine, or don't try to get on the Internet with this one.
Dvd drive door stuck
In case you're not able to eject the disc using the eject button, you can try right clicking on the CD/DVD drive under 'My Computer' and clicking on eject. If that fails as well, you can try to eject the disc manually by pushing a straightened paper clip or a pin into the tiny hole on front of the CD/DVD drive. You should be able to eject it using the last method.

try replacing or swapping the hard drive with another machine and see if it happens again and on which machine if both machine's crash both MB and HD could be bad, If your machine with different HD works fine then it most likely was the HD If not then the MB might be at fault
I have lost my search option??
Someone had used Tweak-XP to 'Hide "Search"' (from the Classic Start Menu) Apparently, this also makes the Explorer Search button not to work.
Maybe you or someone else has done something similar (there's probably numerous programs for doing this kind of thing). You can also check/edit your registry yourself for this effect.
If you're comfortable with regedit use it and see if you can find the following entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoFind
If "NoFind" has the value "01 00 00 00" change it to "00 00 00 00" and it will probably solve your problem. You will need to restart ("log off & log in" will probably suffice).
Hope this solves your problem.
I miss i386 file
I suggest contacting the vendor for which you purchased the computer or the OS and get an OS disc. The file will be found on there - you can run a repair solution from there. Or, look it up at Google.com.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

If you're seeing a screen, it's probably loaded generic video drivers. Try this free system info program:
http://www.gtopala.com/
...this should give you enough information about your video hardware to be able to find drivers for it. It should tell you the make and model of your motherboard, so go to that manufacturer's site and with a bit of luck there will be drivers for chipset, video, sound...whatever's on the mobo.
Good luck!

Desktop computer cases have standard mounting holes and screw stand offs.
There are a huge range of motherboards available, select well known brands, my favorite are Gigabyte, Intel and MSI.
Select a motherboard with the features you require. If you are into gaming, graphics/CAD then select a motherboard that does not have a built-in graphics chip, and then you can get a high end graphics card.
Most likely you need a CPU and RAM with your new motherboard.
You may also need a newer ATX2 power supply if not then check the total power requirements of the new system, it needs to be at least 10 to 15% over the total power requirements so you don't stress the switch mode power supply.
Network card gateway 830gm
Well, you most likely will have to replace the network card, as you already know.
If your network connection is part of the motherboard, disable that one and plug in a new network interface card.
They are fairly plug and play....
