How to Replace a Gateway PC power supply

Just open the cover, find the four screws in the back of the computer that hold the power supply, remove those screws, unplug all the cables making note of what goes where and what needs to be pluged in. replace the power supply, plug all the cables like before and screw the four screws back, replace cover and you should be done.

Gateway 550GR Still Not Booting Up

Have you tried a different power-supply?
A power-supply must emit a few different voltages; if it fails to output one of those voltages, the fans still may spin, and the CD-drive-tray may still open, but the motherboard may not be getting the correct voltages.

Disconnect the AC power, and then open the case. Look at the capacitors (those black/silver cylinders with an X in their silver-coloured top).
Any capacitor that is bulging, i.e., does NOT have a perfectly-flat top, is leaking. Any capacitor that seems to have rusty-brown "sand" on top also is leaking. Either way, it's time to replace the motherboard.

Replaced hard drive and am getting a "Reboot and

Hi seqhdha,

The reason why you're receiving that meesage is the system is not detecting any bootable device on the computer or it is boot from a media that is not bootable (CD/DVD/USB). To fix this problem if you already installed the Operating System you can change boot priority setting and select the Hard Drive as the First Boot Device however, if you havent install the Operating System you need to select the CDROM as the First Boot Device and insert the Windows Installer.

Here are the steps on how to access the BIOS Page.

1. Restart the computer and while it is booting tap DELETE button.

2. On the Bios page look for the BOOT tab then set the priority to either Hard Disk or CDROM depends if you already installed the OS or not.

3. Follow the instruction on how to install the Operating System

4. Rate me if this helps so i can help others.

Thanls for using Fixya.

I'm looking for ethernet drivers for windows 7

btjunkie.org is where I go for all of the software I need. You will also need to download utorrent software which is free at utorrent.com when you get to b]tjunkie type in drivers or try a search for gateway drivers or try typing Win 7 drivers. Or the specific one you will need. I get the full packages because I work on several computers that do not have original or drive discs that come for the repairs. Just a suggestion or better yet go to Gateway and look o upgrade there. I hope this assist you. John

Clean up old compress files on hp pavilion c drive

Use CCleaner and Defraggler from Piriform.com. CCleaner gets rid of temporary files and all of the junk clogging up the C:\ drive. Defraggler is a program much like the Microsoft defragmenting tool but it takes almost half the time the Microsoft one does because it only defrags the fragmented files. Hope this answers your question and good luck.

Serious problem

Hi bigciss22. That means that your computer is turning on but NO booting up. Do you hear any beeps? Because depending on the number of beeps can mean either memory or video card. Open the machine and verify that the memory is tightly inserted. If you use the video card on the motherboard (most likely) I suggest you buy a new video card (you have to make sure the interface is either AGP or PCI (i dont think it's PCIe - PCI express). If you dont want to start swaping components, you will have to take it to a repair shop. I hope this helps and please dont forget to rate my answer. Thank you! :D

Gateway 550GR will not Power On, is there a reset

unplug your computer
open up the system and follow the cable that is behind the power button that leads to the motherboard. unplug it from the system board and plug the power cable back up. if your computer starts up right away when you plug in then that means that the button that you use to turn the computer on is not working. If it still doesn't power up then it can be your power supply.

Will power up but theres no picture

I'd first check that you have the hard drives installed correctly as you can have a primary and secondary drive ect. If you need any of the files I'm unsure but If you don't mind those files deleted you could reinstall windows xp. But from a different computer you could get the drivers needed for xp. Install the operating system xp for example and then from another computer dvd drivers such as network(Probably the most important) you can add those and reconnect to the internet and from there download the other drivers directly (IE video drivers). At least check the hard drive connections to see that they are the way you want them. Hope that helps somewhat.

Computer powers up, but monitor shows a self test

Your video output is bad. Either the video card, or the onboard video built into the computer. You need to swap out the card or add a card to bypass the built in video port on your computer.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Cabinet

depending on which fan you're talking about usually the fan on the side or front are the easy ones to access. The front fan is a little harder but the front of your tower needs to come off. You should see release clip on both sides on the front of your tower when you remove both sides. If it's the heatsink (the one that keeps the CPU cool then you need to get one compatible and you need to buy some thermal paste as well. This paste helps discapate heat. Without it your computer will keep restarting. I hope this helps solve your problem
