In order to sync your iPAQ with Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will need to download and install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx.
Notes
- To find out whether your version of Windows Vista or Windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit, click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties. The version is listed after System Type.
- You can use Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 only with phones running Windows Mobile 2003 or later. ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Device Center won’t work with Windows Embedded CE 4.2 or 5.0, Pocket PC 2002, or Smartphone 2002 devices. (To see which Windows Mobile operating system you’re using, and if your phone doesn’t have a touch screen, click Start > Settings > About. If your phone has a touch screen, click Start > Settings > System tab > About.) To sync content to any of these devices, you must use a USB or serial cable and your computer’s Internet connection and File Explorer.
- You must use Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook 2003, or Office Outlook 2007 to sync your e-mail, contacts, tasks, and notes from your computer.
- You must use a USB cable to connect your phone to your computer the first time you use Windows Mobile Device Center to sync.
I have an older ph10b
Hello and Welcome to FixYa.

To install new software
Nowadays PDAs and Smartphones come with different operating systems. Nokia and Sonyericcson use the Symbian based software. You have indicated your model group as i-mate. It comes with Windows CE pocket PC edition which is totally different than Symbian. There are many softwares available. what kind of software do you need? You can proceed to download.com and choose the category as Windows CE or Pocket PC you will see alot of applications
Good Luck
I have a i-mate pocket pc 4 ph10b model. how i get instalation cd
well...the CD you are talking about can be procured from another user or from your phone's official home-page(if any). The upgrade for windows 5/6/6.1 is possible only if your pocket pc has at least 128 of RAM 64 ROM and a processor of at least 300MHz(i tested under these conditions and it worked fine for win 5 mobile and it worked a bit sloe for win 6).For win6.1 you require double the amount of resources. Plus of that, I don't recommend you upgrading because the fact that your device is a bit old can be an important factor for this upgrade.
Restore information
I can understand you very well since I use a PDA also and this battery problem is an issue for me too. I assume that your backup file is in your storage card and is a standalone exe file (means you don't need your backup software being installed first to start a recovery process). You can remove your storage card from your PDA first and back it up to a PC to ensure that your only backup file is safe. Next, you can do another hard reset to your PDA and do all the settings steps again. After that, you can try to recover some of your data by starting the recovery process and performing not a full backup, but just the necessary data first. I am recommending this step because you have a PDA that's main storage area is very limited (like mine) and if you are normally using it filled up, backup process can be terminated before it finishes because of the backup file is nearly equal to the total main storage area, and this causes your device to stop working even after your incomplete recovering process. This is mainly becuase recovering process needs lots of space and when the process is near the end, it can't have enough space on main storage area to continue. So, you can try to recover the necessary data first (Softwares, contacts, appointments, ...), then, if it is successfull, you can open your backup file again and this time you can select the other personal documents that has been left in the first process. (I hope your backup software supports selecting the needed data to recover.)
