Thinkpad A22m 2628-3SU laptop premature shutdown
OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail. A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.
How do I get beyond a failed password?
Yes as mentioned the only way out is to reinstall or use the recovery disk . Reinstallation means the main drive will be formatted and so you would stand to lose all the files if they were saved on the main drive(C). Please try and remember the possibility of the password before any further step is taken
I have IBM ThinkPad computer
Remove the main battery and unplug the CMOS battery if you can get to it or you can try to hold the on/off button for about 30 seconds. This should reset the BIOS to factory defaults and you can then get back in and reset a new password.

If you are running windows xp after the reformat you will have to load all of the device drivers. Ethernet adapter is one of them. So you will need to use a pc that has internet connection and go to IBM's web site and download drivers to flash drive then install then to the IBM thinkpad

You will most likely have to remove the backup battery temporarily to allow the CMOS to clear the password lock.
The instructions for removing the CMOS battery are located
here.
Be sure to disconnect the power cord and remove the standard battery when performing this work.
Be very careful to follow the directions exactly as shown.
You may have to leave the CMOS battery removed for a number of hours in order to clear the CMOS password.
I got the laptop and
First, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough
power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way
to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements
(written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage
& ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same,
or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the
laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at
least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be
less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be
providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the
power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage.
You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If
the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery
off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the
fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it
self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If
this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be
bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your
laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the
charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs
servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled
& the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the
area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should
be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard
altogether.
THE MAIN SCREEN IS SMALL AND AROUND IT IS ALL BLACK
It sounds like your monitor settings have been adjusted somehow.
What operating system are you using? XP, Vista?
You are heading in the right direction, in any case, to go to control panel.Go to Display, Settings, and make sure the screen resolution is set to more. Then click on Advanced and make sure the DPI setting is on normal (unless you had it adjusted otherwise). If you changed something, then select apply the new settings without restarting and OK.
You'll have to wait while the system changes things. If that fixes it, reboot and make sure the settings are still as you wish.
If not, run the troubleshooter and see if you can't trace the issue that way.
Let me know if this works, or there's something more I can do to assist you.
ps these instructions apply to xp, but may work with Vista as well...
To start an ibm tnhikpàd a22m the pc do
take it to a laptop repair person so they can get into it and reset the bios password. Usually envolves jumpers on the motherboard which is not an easy process in a laptop
