Hi,
If you are experiencing noise from in your laptop then it can be the Hard Drive or the Fan as you mentioned.
if it is a clicking noise and the system boots up but seems it is kinda slow make sure you back up any personal data from the system possible HDD failure if the system works fine with no problems and there is noise possible it can be the fan.
Does the noise happen every so often or does it happen if you use the DVD rom? if it happens most of the time it can be the fan or if this happens as soon as you turn the power on then it can be the fan, Possble something it in it's way making the noise possible the fan may have gone loose and is touching something else inside the system or just a simple cleaning may do.
Really depends if it will be a replacement Fan then I guess you may need to call Lenovo for the issue, the Fan will be inside the machine and is hard to remove without removing the Bottom Plastics to see the whole inside of the unit.
One suggestin is bring it to a local tech to have it checked if it is just a cleaning issue with the fan or if the HDD is the one causing the noise.
Have a nice day, I hope this helps.
Will not properly boot up
For starters the support for XP has been ended by Microsoft so no more updates it is now classified as a vulnerable operating system. Please upgrade to Windows 7 or better, if you are looking to troubleshoot when the computer is booting up tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu click on Startup in Safe mode, this will continue to boot the machine, enter your username and password then goto control panel, add remove programs and uninstall any software that you think could be causing this issue, reboot back this time without the F8 key and see if changes made have any effect on the operating system. Otherwise you can google you problem
How to operate ibm setup utility
Hello Russell shy,
This new form of recovery allows the user to restore the preloaded operating system and software on the machine back to the original out of factory condition. Prior to performing a software recovery, Lenovorecommends returning your system to it's original factory configuration by removing all hardware that has been added to your system afterwards
When the system first starts, the following message will be displayed on a blank screen:
To Start the Product Recovery program, press F11
This message will stay on the screen for approximately 2 seconds, and it will be there every time the machine is started from a powered off state. If the F11 key is pressed while the message is displayed, then the system will enter the Service partition.

Hi, First check your charger with a digital volt meter. + on the inside - on the outside. You should have a little more what your battery is rated at. If that is OK check connections to and from the Laptop.
My guess is that your charger is not working. Relpace with new and your good to go. Also check for a bad connection on laptop.
Reset password
Reset the logon password after logged into Windows or are you locked out from logging in at all and which operating system do you have?
Operating system not found
need to repair operating software. there are several ways to do this depending on the software and the machine you are using. Easiest way is to put original cd in machine and run and follow instructions to repair. If you haven't got the original disk that came with your machine see if your friends have one. Just make sure its the same os as you had on.
