You have a blown capacitor. You will need to open it up, find the capacitor (the top will be convex instead of flat) and replace it. It is delicate work, so only do it if you are familiar with this kind of work. Otherwise, find a friend who is good at repairing sensitive electronics.

If you've tried other cords as well as tried holding down the power button for a minute and trying to restart your problem is most likely your micro usb port/pwr jack. It has separated from the board and needs to be re-soldered and made sturdy again. If you are great with a soldering iron you can do the repair after watching a few youtube videos but it is a tight and tiny repair. If not I strongly recommend sending it to us. I was having this exact same problem. I did a little research but to no avail, until I found this site. Just as I went to test some of these suggestions out, I found the screen had just returned back to normal as if nothing was wrong. Maybe give it a little time to work? I've been using it during its screen problems and it seems perfectly fine (aside from the green tint). Now my kindle is as good as new, so maybe you just have to wait a bit.
