3Com OfficeConnect Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway (3CRWE554G72) Router Questions & Answers
I have a 20 mbps adsl line, but whene i connect
This issue is most likely due to the quality of the signal between the PC and the wireless. If there is a lot of interference or the wireless devices are far from the 3COM, then the signal will be less then optimal. Sinnal quality will degrade quickly when going through walls floors and celings as the density and metal contained in these structures block wireless signals. Interference can come form other wireless devices, cordless phones, RC toys and some wireless mice and keyboards.
The other factor to consider is the type of wireless being used. Wireless like all technology get better as time goes by. As new technology comes out it is categorized and classified. For Wifi there are currently 5 separate specifications for wireless. They are:
802.11 (Specless) - approx 1997 era devices. operates at 1 to 2 Mbps
802.11 a - approx 1999. operates at 6Mbps.
802.11 b - approx 1999. operates at 11 Mbps.
802.11 g - approx 2003. operates at 54 Mbps
802.11 n - October 2009. operates at 100+ Mbps
If you have an old wireless device it will work with the 3COM but only at the speed it was designed for.
You can always check your speed by connecting directly to the 3COM with ethernet cable and going to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

HI,
I have two 3com
I don't know anything about these units, nor do I have time to source any docs for you, but maybe you can try connecting a PC directly to the port your patch panel is connecting the the switch from, you can at least see if that port is working.
My next and only other suggestion is to invest in a "LAN cable tester". In my area, you can find cheap ones for U$20.
The tester will allow you to check connectivity between any two ports, and allows you to test both patch links and individual CAT5/6 cables.
Good luck!
