What is the frequency for the Kenwood TK-3402U-k hand held radio

This is a UHF radio and is programmable by a Kenwood radio dealer. They do not come with any frequencies set into them. They are commercial radios and may be able to be programmed to HAM frequencies, if you are a HAM, or to your licensed commercial frequency. However, these radios may no longer be approved for commercial use in the US.

Kenwood TS-50S squeals when first turned on. After a few off-ons is ok but RX volume seems low. TX OK.

I can't say that I have had this problem, and I do have 3 TS-50's. They all have other problems that I have yet to remedy. All of them are intermittent. At least yours appears to be consistent. My educated guess is that a bypass capacitor in the audio stages has failed or lifted off the circuit board. Unless you are very experienced in Surface Mount Technology (SMT), I would take this radio into a competent shop, or send it to Kenwood. Be prepared for a shock on the cost as usually they just replace the board that has the problem and don't get to the component level these days. It's actually less expensive to do this at current shop rates. If you have a good friend who does work with SMT components, maybe he can help you out.

My Kenwood ts-480HX will not transmit or receive on 20M

Hi George. The problem is most likely the relays or their driver transistors in your band pass filter for 20M. This is a common problem and can affect any band. If you are technically competent, you can change them yourself. These newer radios use very tiny components and unless you are used to working with them, you will just cause more problems than you can fix! Give Kenwood's service department a call and see what the band pass filter board would cost to replace. It might be more cost effective to just replace the board.

I have a Kenwood TS440 that will transmit on 160, 80, 40mgs but 20mgs and up after ptt the air light comes on for a secound then goes out. No transmit at all

It sounds like your PLL board needs a bit of adjustment. The radio uses the same circuitry for every band, other than some band pass filters and front end tuning. The PLL boards frequencies change depending on which band you are on. The capacitors used did not have great tolerances and their values tend to change over time. The higher the frequency of operation, the more they will drift, to the point where the PLL can not lock. Re-adjustment of the PLL by someone who knows what they are doing may help, but it would be better to have all of the VCO capacitors changed by someone competent to do this work. Just re-adjusting the PLL board will not guarantee that this problem will re-occur. Doing this can take a lot of time and work. Hopefully you have a good HAM friend that is technically competent and will help you out. Good Luck.
