How to delete large files from hard drive

Hi.
Just right click on the file in Windows explorer and click on DELETE in the emergent menu.
It might tell you file to large to send to the recycle bin, that means you wont be able to recover it if you proced to delete it, just click ok, and done.
If it is write protected( do not allow you to delete it), just right click again, click on propreties, uncheck de checkbox Read-only, click OK and try to delete it again.
Good luck.

How can I overclock my 166mhz classic computer?

Overclocking is not really recommended to be done by normal users. For overclocking your computer, you should have extensive knowledge of the hardware of your computer.

Overclocking may result in a totally non-working computer, burnt up Processor and motherboard and the likes. Also, overclocking results in heating problems, so you need to have made the arrangements for taking care of this heat issue.

Basically overclocking means increasing the Clock Speed of your comuter. Suppose I say that I have a Pentium 4 - 2.4GHz computer, the 2.4GHz part is the clock speed, which is increase in overclocking. Surely the computers with higher clock speeds work faster but that comes at a price. A small mistake on your part and your computer is no more working.

There are various Forums and sites on the internet that discuss Overclocking and its intricacies in greater detail.
Here's a pointer:

PS: Search google for "overclocking" and you should get a lotta links to work with.

Processor upgrade

Need to look at the motherboard specs along with the processor "Socket". It will usually be a 754 or 939 depending on what your motherboard says. I wouldn't try too fast and set yourself up for disappointment. I would upgrade the RAM before the processor.

Corrupted BIOS chip

That depends on your motherboard Manual. It should correspond to your BIOS. Download the Motherboard's BIOS file usually in a Zip then the contents are .bin files. Then use the BIOS manufacturer's EPRON Programming tool. Which usually comes with a user manual. Just follow its examples. Good luck!

Gigabyte Model GA-7DXR Motherboard

This unfortunately is a very common problem with eMachines computers built between 2001 thru 2005 especially those with 478 sockets (processor-P4/Celeron) & 462/A sockets (processor-AMD K7) & Intel OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) Motherboards. I assume your motherboard is the original OEM? In cases like this it's usually time to replace the motherboard. A new one will have this problem addressed and corrected. However, if you like to 'tinker' I will share with you how I usually solve this problem when my customer doesn't have the finances for a new board as many of my customers are retirees and not in too much of a hurry. This may sound ridiculous to some but I assure you it does work and My own machine #3 in my personal network can attest to it for the last two years.
First and most important you must identify the exact transistor that has the problem. Usually there are 3-5 depending on the motherboard that control the memory circuit. Assuming you've done this you will then need to find another used Intel motherboard of comparable design that's not working and is going to be or has been discarded which you can usually get for free. Don't worry it doesn't need be an exact match as your not going to be robbing your replacement from it's memory control. Once you've located the appropriate 'scrapped' board look around it's area in between and toward the it's rear across from the "Northbridge" for where the front audio is or where it's cables would plug in for a comparable transistor to yours in size, contacts, solder points, etc both on front and BACK of the motherboard. Once you have located an appropriate replacement remove it carefully heating each solder point just enough to remove it so as to avoid overheating. Replace your shorted transistor with this one and you should get your video back.
Don't worry you have nothing to lose! As I stated above in cases such as this it's time to replace the board. I have though replaced these transistors with comparable ones from the audio circuit's of many different boards and have had about a 75% success rate in doing so.
Hope it helps and good luck!

Overheating? Processor running at half speed?

If the PC boot and start I believe your processor is OK, it's very unlikely that a bad processor can start.
Normally the average temperature of a processor is between 40-50 degree C. Your processor is overheating and it will not last too long.
Please look at the link here below http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ProcFam=483&sSpec=&OrdCode=
and see if you can reconize your processor. The number on the left is the same number printed on your processor (You have to remove the fan again).
As a second test I suggest you to download the Asus manual of your motherboard and verify that you don't have any jumper that you are missing.
If you want to post the motherboard type I can further help you.

Upgrading my laptop processor

When you're running an average load, start Task Manager and view the performance tab. If the amount of free RAM is low, then definately upgrade your RAM. Plus, nowadays it's really cheap to upgrade ram.
As far as upgrading your processor, that can get a little tricky and expensive.
Also, what do you mainly use your computer for, and what operating system do you use?

Hooking my emachine monitor with compac tower

Jordman85,
Make sure that you are connecting to the video output on your Compaq that is configured (such as a PCI video card versus the integrated Graphics on your MoBo) and when reconnecting monitors, make sure the machine is powered down before connecting or disconnecting.
Since you say that "the only thing that show up is the arrow button", I assume you are referring to your cursor, and if that is correct? You're PC would be attempting to boot to windows and there may be a hardware conflict that may be stalling it. There could also be corruption in the windows installation. But the monitor should be simple "Plug and Play".
More details about your Graphics Card and any recent hardware software changes/occurrences that have taken place would help.
Good luck.
