try some super glue to put the tabs on or find some same colored duck tape at walmart or something and put a little tape on the battery cover its probably not noticable if the tape is the same color hope this helps and have a good day

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer. You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track. This happened to my player also. To fix it, you have to go to the rio website and download the most recent firmware for whatever model mp3 player you have. I went to: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio/product.asp?model=265&SKU=90260558) Next install. Plug in your player to your USB to your computer - BUT (and here's the important part) you need to hold down the menu key while plugging it in. Keep holding until it powers up AND the word "UPGRADER" shows on the screen. Now, run the firmware upgrade program and follow the directions and it will see your player and upgrade the firmware (yes, even if it's the same firmware version.) You'll have to run the .exe file to get the upgrades onto your player. Unplug the player and it should be like new!

This device is not supported by itunes.

all you can do is drag music to it on the desk top icon for your rio

See if there's something blocking the metal of the memory card and use something like a flat screw driver to scratch it. If doesn't work, then it simply implies that the memory card may have spoilt

Problem solved. I smacked it a few times and it began working again. LOL.

This means you are currently in the "upgrader mode". Please turn the unit OFF and then back ON. You can download the latest firmware version of your player. Please be advised that downloading firmware update may delete contents in the memory of your player. You can also Flash the memory by removing the batteries, wait for a few seconds, and put it back in.
If this doesn't work, and if the player is detected by the computer, try to reformat the player (this will erase all the information from the player).

When mine did this it meant the firmware inside had gotten corrupted. It started working again when I reinstalled the firmware. The official firmware is available at the official website, and wikipedia promotes an unofficial firmware that provides more features.

For either of them, plug the unit into the USB port of your computer, then run the utility to upgrade the your Forge.

(Eventually, my Forge's internal memory storage died - it still play music from card memory, but every time I turn it on I have tell it my language is english etc.)

the socket where card is installed may have internal loose element so its not detecting.check out the card in another device and also check another card in your device.this will confirm the fault.

In this case, it turned out there was an m3u file on both the memory card as well as in the internal memory with the same filename. I deleted the duplicate file on the memory card and it booted up fine. I assume I could have renamed it instead of deleted it and still had it work.

UPGRADER is a mode that purges the firmware from the Rio player prior to flashing the unit. Firmware is basically the operating system for the player, so if it is corrupted any number of things can occur. You can enter UPGRADER mode to update the firmware on your player by holding down the MENU button when you power the Rio ON. Flashing the player in this mode erases all content. Try the following to get the unit out of UPGRADER mode, if powering OFF the unit will not correct it. ALL PLAYERS - If you accidentally entered UPGRADER mode, turn the unit OFF and then back ON again. - Download the latest version of the firmware for your player and upgrade the unit. Visit http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio - It may be necessary to run the firmware update more than once. - This process may erase content from your player. - If the player is detected by the computer, it is recommended that you format the player, which WILL erase content from the player. - Macintosh user's try flashing the player on a PC. The Rio Forge, Rio se510, Rio Cali [Black Rio Stick], and Rio Chiba [Black Rio Stick] can lock up causing the player to be unresponsive. your card contains fat file system. format your card with ntfs file system.

I got a converter from NCH.com to convert any kind of audio file to any kind of audio file you need.
The converter works great!

Install upgrade (run program from your desktop)

Try ripping your disks with Windows Media Player instead.

Pull it apart, and put it back together again.
The connecter between the two main boards have have come lose.
If that does not work, it may be toast
